Default Tire Advice Needed Please

Michelin Pilot Sports $1400
Bridgestone Potenza $950

I know the Michelins are the best tire out there, but most of my driving is just cruising and highway once or twice a week during the summer back and forth to work.

I have gone to the dragway a few times and would like to drive a road course one of these days if I ever get the time.

Is the Michelin worth the extra money or could I get by with the Bridgestone? Also, does anyone have experience with one lasting longer than the other?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I bought my tires for my 2000 C5 a few weeks ago. From Discount Tire Co. I bought the Michelin ZP run flats. with a $70.00 rebate card, I paid $1085.00 out the door. Mounted, ballanced (with stick on weights) Extreamly Happy with them so far. As a side note, Michelins are the only tires I use on my truck and wifes car. Good Luck

bridgestone is just as good as michelin but you can put on some sumitomo tires for a lot cheaper and they perform really well.

As with any forum you will get lots of opinions. I just put on a set of Continental Extreme DW tires for around $900. They are quieter and smoother than the michilins. They also perform very well on the twisty roads around my house. Have not had a chance to take them to VIR or an Autocross, but that's the plan this summer. I am not a big fan of the Michilins due to price and performance. If you look at the Tire-Rack, test the Conti"s were almost on a par with them in all categories for less than half the price.

Depends on your intended use.

I have had the following tires on my C5's

Goodyear Eagle stock EMT
Goodyear Eagle GS-D3 non-EMT
Michelin Pilot Sport 2 non-EMT
Bridgestone Potenza Sport RE760 non-EMT

The Pilot Sports were very quiet but what impressed me most was the road hold cornering. The tire is amazing. Expensive but amazing. You will not find a grippier tire and...they wear great too.

My wife had replaced the GS-D3's on her C5 with the Potenza's last year. They ride nice so I thought I would give them a try on the 03 Anniversary vert I picked up a few weeks ago. They are not as quiet as the Pilots nor is the grip even close. But for the price it is a great tire.

For you use, I would suggest the Potenzas.

Thank you for the input. I want the Pilot sports but I think for what I use the car for, I can get away with the Potenzas. Did you notice a huge diff between the two for just city driving?

hope you won't be saying "should'a, would'a, could'a" if you get the Potenzas to save $200 approximately. Get the best; you never regret buying quality and the best you can afford to buy with anything.

Amen, that is why i went with the Michelins, They are so round, very little weight added to them, they were $300 cheaper then the Goodyear (Run Flats) from Sams Club. 45,000 tread warranty, They were the originator of Radial tires, and I like the Fat White Michalinman !!

Consider the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO tires too. I am running them on mine and like them a lot.

The original owner replaced the Goodyear run-flats on my '02 with the Potenza's just before I bought the car and I've put 10,000 miles on them. They are quiet, ride nice and are wearing very well. I think they are a great tire and I will buy another set in about 20,000 miles to replace these.

I went from Pilot Sports to Nitto Invo, I like them better and they are better priced.
