Has anyone here ever used an online salvage dealer to purchase a project? I think I remember someone on here or LS1tech talking about buying a vehicle for a good price. An associate was looking into buying a wrecked C6 and piecing it back together in his spare time. I told him this was a very knowledgeable site, and someone here may know someone else who bought a car under similar circumstance. This site is an example but not sure how legitimate it is http://erepairables.com/salvage-auct...r-1038813?bm=2

I've bought a few directly from the insurance auction. I currently doing a 99FRC bought for $3200 in Aug.
The 3:90 gears I have come out of a wrecked car and the DD Saturn Sky I have was wrecked and rebuilt. If you have a salvage title just remember you will not get anything for it if you want to sell it. If your going to keep it forever its not a bad way to buy in at a lot lower price.

Not completely true,I bought, repaired and sold a 98 coupe. KBB had it at the time
priced at 14.5k in good condition with clean title. I sold it for 12.7k. I guess it has to do with the buyer, but also as to the quality of the repairs.

Your correct. I did not mentioned trading it in to a dealer what I was thinking. Dealers will give you half the value, maybe a little more but banks won't lend on a salvage title.

I sold mine to an individual no trade in. My car had very light damage. look at my previous posts/profile and you'll see it. It's white. I now have a 99 FRC going back together bought under 4k. Also not everyone finances their car, especially if under 20k. It's not for everybody and some won't even have a clue where to begin with a project like this. For those you better off and going to a dealer and hope the car from them wasn't wreck as well. There are cars out there that were salvage vehicle at one time, but not no more. I looked at a 2004 a few years back at a dealer in Orlando,Florida and noticed No ID # on the back of the front impact bar,Obviously replaced at one time. However, Carfax showed the vehicle as having a clean title with no accidents.
If the car is done right, your planning on keeping the car awhile and most important at a right price.Than it would be a good deal. Especial if your going to track it.

My brain runs in one direction most of the time. I run a cottrell 10 car hauler on new cars only and I forget there is anything but new sometimes....
I got the reports on the sky before I bought it. It showed a heck of a lot of damage but I went over that car with a magnifying glass and one scrap on the frame was all I could see. Picked it up on Calif and they are really tough on inspection after its been wrecked so for half price what they were selling for I was ok with it. Not home that much anyway so just wanted something to play with. It will more than likely be with me till it dies. Have tried trading it off a few times and the best I could get was about 12000 when the cars were still selling in the 17000 to 18000 range and yes if your going to keep it they are a really good buy....
