Hi all. I bought my 1999 C5 in October 2004; by 2008 my sun visor (driver side) had grown to be so difficult to raise and lower it that in finally broke in half from me forcing it. So my husband installs 2 new visors for me, and I'm impressed with their nice, smooth operation--hmm, don't know what was wrong with the old ones, but these new ones sure are nice and easy. But now, it's 2012, and guess what--the driver side (I rarely have a passenger) is once again so stiff it barely moves, and it is on the verge of breaking again. Has anyone had this problem?? I don't see anyone posting about it, but it seems like a lot of people replace their visors. Jeesh. Thanks for your help.
Hmm nvr had this problem.. All I can say is throw some lube on those bad boys. Wd40 or something but take them off first or that crap will spray all over ur car.
There are several vendors that will cover the visors in more durable materials and replace the insides with a more structurally sound material. It can get expensive so you could do a search on DIY if you would like to tackle it yourself. Either is better than replacing the stockers every few years... Good luck!
It is partical board, and the clips get dry and then the partical board snaps, I know I had to replace my 1999 ones as well, both driver and passenger. The new ones are great better material (I think partical board also, but can't tell cause I ain't gonna rip it open to find out). I ripped the old ones to see if I can repair it and cover it with leather and re-use them. It isn't worth the effort. I got mine from Mid American for $79 each. Good luck..
Thanks for all your help--for sure the visors fit well the ultra cheapo interior (but I still love my Corvette), but this is more a problem with the mechanism that raises and lowers the visor. Oh well--maybe it's a one-off and part of the charm of my car. I will try the WD40 when we replace it -- AGAIN! Thanks for your suggestions!
