I just pulled the '03 Z06 out of hibernation yesterday and after driving around over the weekend, I noticed what looks like a sheet metal screw embedded in my rear tire The tire is a Michelin PS2 295x35x ZR18.
If I have the tire patched from the inside and not just a plug fix, will it still be OK to use this tire to an autocross or roadcourse? What about just driving around town while following all local speed limits?
We were the first house in the new section of our subdivision. You know where this is going. I had 2 nails in my vetoes tires the GY run flats, back then. My wires Lexus had 3 nails. All the tires where fixed with the system that has an internal patch and a plug they pull through. All tires held air, all tires functioned perfectly until we replaced them.
Do not plug it from the tread side, that is not good.
For the original post, you did not say it it was a side wall issue. If not there the plug and patch should be fine and I would not be concerned for racing. In the side wall, it can be a safety concern for sure.
Thanks for the replies. The screw is not in the sidewall.
I was referred to a local shop that claims to take care of members of the local Corvette Club and other "high end" cars. When I asked for a quote for a patch/plug repair, he said "No charge. When you need tires, you'll remember that and will come back to me." He's probably right. It's not a bad business model.
