Default LS6 Intake

I'm sure this has been answered before but I cannot find it. I have an LS1 intake and wish to replace it with an LS6 intake. Do I have to change out everything, i.e. TB, fuel injectors etc. or is it just a matter of changing the intake and everything else bolts up fine? Just a little more info, my intake is cracked and needs replacing (according to the dealer), the engine is stock inside with CAT backs and CAI. I have seen many threads that say to replace the LS1 with an LS6 for better performance so since I have to replace it anyway, just need to know moneywise should I stay with the LS1 or replace with LS6. Thanks for any help you can provide me!

The coolant pipes are slightly different LS1 to LS6, but other than that everything should bolt up. When I swapped mine over, I kept my stock TB, fuel rails/injectors, etc. and only did the intake manifold and coolant passages.

This guide covers it pretty well: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=5

It is a direct bolt on replacement . Everything fits perfect ,t-body, injectors , except the coolent lines under the manifold . I just ground the little fins off the bottom of ls6 manifold , no problem ,did not have change coolent path . Kind of simple replacement . Not a huge h.p increase ,mostly at higher rpm feels stronger . p.m if you have any questions

Everything will work except as others have said, You can get the cross over tubes needed from GM, Don't grind on a good intake, Do it the correct way, It is only a few bucks for the kit.

I would certainly replace an Ls1 with an Ls6 no sense to not upgrading if it has to be apart anyhow

LS1 howto is a great source for the swap.

Now, next question is the money one. A used LS1 intake you could get for free or very close. Used LS6 intakes push closer to $300 and new ones are $500-$600. Plus the additional cost of the crossover pipes. Still, this is a decent upgrade. Doubtful you'll feel much, but if you want more power later, that's where the LS6 intake will start to shine.

And if you do buy a LS6 used, make sure you verify it first. Lots of fakes out there. Can tell by the hatching pattern and flat bottom and of course the casting number.

FWIW, when I installed mine + ported stock TB, my car ran lean and only picked up 3rwhp/3rwtq. I had the car retuned after that.

read up on the intake modification so you can still use the coolant tubes. why spend over 50 bucks to restrict coolant flow in your engine when you can remove unnecessary casting ribs from under the intake and it fit perfectly.

You are 100% correct, I twisted mine off with a good pair of dikes in less than 5 minutes and cleaned up the surface with a small wood chisel. Easy fast and clean.
