Here is an example from a C3 from a '70

You can get replacement pieces along with a new windshield and fix it but I think all the early C3's have this problem. Referred to as one,two or three towel leaks...

I have owned a '68 convertible and '75, '79 and '81 coupes and this is the first time I ever heard of the "birdcage". Fortunately for me.

Good luck with your "new" C5, you're going to love it.

Ok, I took it for a test drive. (Oh lord, the power was intoxicating!). The drive train seemed tight, good power delivery, sharp gear changes (it's auto), and solid brakes. The tires appear to have plenty of life left, so they're good. There were (as expected) a few problems and comments on the seriousness would be appreciated. First the harmonic balancer seemed to be making noise (the salesman, to his credit, warned me about it beforehand). I'm wondering how serious this might be to engine wear or is it minor? (I'm under the impression that the HB keeps the crankshaft properly aligned. Also, the oil pressure gauge was buried in the high category, but I think it's a gauge problem from the research I've done. And I'm not sure if the fuel gauge is working properly. When we started it to warm it up it read 1/4 tank, but after ten minutes of driving I was getting the low fuel chime and the gauge read E. Needless to say it cut my test drive short. The salesman is having the HB fixed and then I'll be taking it out for another spin before we discuss purchasing it.
What I need to know is: does everyhting sound ok or could these be warning signs of bigger problems. I hope not, I'm already hopelessly in love with her.
Any input, as usual, would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Do not buy on emotion. I'd skip this one. I'd skip any dealer used purchase although I've broken my rule, once! There's a reason why it's there. You already described enough. Others issues are sure to follow. Plus the dealer doesn't know the car.

Find one on CF, autotrader, usedcorvettesforsale.com, vettefinders.com, cars.com & others (advance search on some)

Meanwhile read up some more

It's not unheard of to get over 300K out of em if maintained so be sure to inquire about maintenance records.
