I'm about to start on installing my Sparco 375 w/quick release and was doing some research on how to pull the wheel.
Found out that I will need the "J hooks" and possibly drilling/tapping the holes in the wheel to get it off. Good to know. Hopefully I don't have too much trouble, sounds like a pain in the ***.
What I'm curious about is that I also saw a mention of replacing the steering wheel nut in a PDF. I have never heard of doing this and cannot find a mention of it anywhere on this forum....seems like this would be more talked about. Does the nut really need to be replaced? why?
I'm not sure why it needs to be replaced but my new quick release hub came with a new one so I used it.
Advance has a generic wheel puller for 18 bucks that got the job done for me with ease. I recommend getting it as it is about the cheapest out there. It does have regular bolts, not j-hooks but i just used my bench grinder and ground down the heads of the bolts to be something of a j and that worked great. Good luck.
The nut is self locking, and I guess it's a safety issue (or maybe a lawyer issue). Shop manual says replace it. P/N is 26056108-$7.81. I'm sure using blue loctite would accomplish the same thing-you be the judge.
I guess I'll replace it since its self locking. I'm surprised my adapter or quick release didn't come with one.. I already bought a generic puller but need to get a set of the J arms.
