Serious Brake Problem?
So, I've been noticing small drips on my garage floor for a couple of weeks. when I look under the car I can see fluid on the front crossmember dripping to the floor. It's got to be brake fluid because it is eating the paint off of the floor.
Anyway, I get the car up on my ramps tonight and discover that the steering shaft seems to have worn a hole into the hard brake line that goes to the front left brake assembly. Looking down from the top, behind the alternator, the three hard lines seem to be right on the bolt on the steering shaft. I called a Vette buddy of mine, asked him if his lines were that close and he said no, so I'm like WTF?
While under the car, I barely touched the line and then fluid started dripping out pretty good. There was obviously a worn spot in it.
How hard is it going to be to replace that one line and why are my lines so close to the steering shaft? The black plastic clips that hold them don't look like they are connected to the frame.
I'm just glad I found it when I did, I almost took the car out and could have lost the brakes entirely.
Does anyone have a write up on replacement and bleeding the system, I've got fluid everywhere. The car is stuck in my garage and I've got to fix it myself.
