I believe synthetic is fine - I think anything you get will be synthetic, and Dot 3 is fine unless you are planning on heavy braking, but you could do DOT 4 as well with no issues. What you want to avoid is Silicone-based fluid, which I think is DOT 5 or DOT 5.1 (one of the two...they get out of sequence at some point).

With mine... I just use what I have left over brake fluid. I use Ferodo Super Formula which is a DOT4 fluid with a dry boiling point of 626 F. Good stuff, but you can use pretty much any DOT3 or DOT4 fluid (Castrol, Motul, etc). Just like DarkBlueC5 said, no DOT5.

Thank you,,,,Silicone is what I meant, not Synthetic, am getting old and senile. Looking at Prestone dot 4.

Thanks Al

Look at the boiling points and get something with a high temp. I use Wilwood 600+, many use Motul 600 I think Castro has a high temp fluid as well

Just did mine today using the Ranger method. Super easy to do.
I used Prestone dot4 as recommended by Ranger.

I have done mine the ranger way, and it worked good, then it got to not shifting good again.

So now, I change it, drive the car for a week or 2, then change it again, it's working much better now.

I'm using Wal Mart Supertech brake fluid, DOT 3.

Must have missed the part or forgot where Ranger said what type to use.

if you mix 3 and 4 you wont get the full protection of 4 but it wont hurt anything.

How often should the clutch fluid be changed? Is there a more thorough way than Ranger/turkey baster? I know some vehicles have bleeder bolts near the slave cylinder for this type of work.

There is a bleeder. The problem is you have to take half the car apart to get to it.
