Default TPM sensor problem

I just put a set of factory C6 wheels on my 2000. I've tried to get my car to learn the new tire pressure sensors by going thru the DIC and using a magnet, but when the DIC displays "learn left front tire" it wont pick it up. I'm not sure what year the C6 wheels are from. Can it be the sensors are not compatible with my C5? Do I need to go to a dealer for this? Thanks in advance for the help.

C6 sensors will not work on your C5. Only sensors for '97-'00 will work. '01-'04 are different, too.
And guess what....the early sensors cost more than double the later ones.

Yeah, you need the correct sensors for the car year, not the wheel year. You can upgrade the entire system, tpms, fobs and rfa to the 01-04 style sensors from gmpartshouse.com for around $400 plus shipping and pay for the install, or you can buy the older type tpms you need from them also. Set of four is $418 plus shipping and you'll have to pay for the install. If they are still working, you could also remove the sensors from your old wheels and move them to the C6 wheels you have.

Sorry, but you will need to put the correct sensors in the wheels for your year car.

I still have my stock wheels, but I hate to break them down. I found a used set of 4 TPM's from a 98 for $80 from a reputable guy. I'm pretty tempted to take a chance with them for that price. These things don't "wear out" over time, or do they?

From what I understand, the batteries are good for 8-10 years. After that--toast.

Program the used sensors to your car to be sure they are working before you install them (mark the order for the correct wheel position). That doesn't tell you how long the batteries will last, but it will tell you if they work now. After you install them, you won't have to reprogram. If you search the forum, you can find a guy who replaces the batteries and reseals them for a fee.
