Default Questions on Potential First Vette

Yesterday I test drove a 2002 c5 Z06 and did some preliminary negotiations on the car at a local dealership. Looking for some insight on to whether I should close the deal on this car or keep looking..

Car is black with 19,725 miles and mint other than a small(1/4") crack in the left rear quarter wheel well on the outside rim of the wheel well. What does something like this cost to fix?

Looking to trade my 2004 Silverado Crew cab with 57,000 miles. My truck has the full center console( no jumper seat), bose stereo, power seat, dual climate control, bed liner, bed mat, and best of all brand new black 20" Silverado SS wheels and brand new tires which I paid about $1,600 for about 4,000 miles ago.

My info: Im 24 years old. Like to ride Motocross when time permits, so a truck is a must. I am really torn on the vette. The car is sweet and I have ALWAYS wanted to own one. Just figured it would have to wait until later in life.

So im considering trading in my truck, buying the vette, then buying a beater small pickup for work commute and trips to the motocross track, leaving the vette as my pleasure and pride vehicle.

Main concerns are giving up my full size comfy truck and moving into a beater.Plus my truck is paid for and I will have to owe money on the new car...

Info and thoughts much appreciated!

EDIT****: They were asking $25,900 for the car and dropped the price to $23,000 in our negotiations.

Personally.

I would keep the truck and take the money I would use for the beater and place a down payment on the vette and make payments on the vette. That is, if you can swing it. Only you know your financial situation.

It would be tough for me to make the deal you are considering given the situation. But If I was 24, heck yes I would.

I would need to know number specifics before I could evaluate the deal.

A quick search of ebay for listings like your truck has them anywhere from 12K to 18K, with those miles. But not one of them has sold for that price.

For the Z06 they were asking around 19 to 25 but none have recently sold.

But it sounds like you want your cake and to eat too. If your money situation allows it go for it, but if it doesn't use your good judgement.

How much are they asking for the Vette? Is the truck you currently own paid for? Hard to evaluate the deal without more info. But if you can afford to keep the truck and buy the C5, then you have the best of both worlds.

Will you be able to get a loan for that car, or will you be paying cash for it? I would imagine getting a loan for a ten year old vehicle would be tough if not impossible. I assume this is the reason for having to sell the truck.

I would say pass on the car. Finding a loan on a 10 year old car is going to be a pain and when you find one, the interest will probably kill you. The Vette is nice, but can be expensive with the up keep as a daily. I drive 100 miles a day and I go through a set of tires a year. That is me buying Bridgestones so they set me back about 1000 a year. Im picky about my fuel as it always gets 93 from Exxon, so that is another possible varible. That's only a couple of things, so I would say sit down and think about it.

Your truck is paid for I would keep it.

Work out a deal on the vette or wait for another and save in the interim. If you have the VIN of the vette check with your insurance company to see what the costs will be adding the vette into the picture under different scenarios.

I say keep the truck and maybe find a vette a little more reasonably priced. That way you get the best of both worlds. I sold a Z-71 to get my vette and I miss it dearly right up until I fire up the vette. Good luck with youre decision. btw I've got a good ole beater for the truck chores

You answered your own question, "a truck is a must".

My truck is paid for. I could probably afford to keep the truck, but it doesn't get outstanding gas mileage and I have a decent commute to work. The fuel economy of a smaller pick up would offset the increase in insurance of having two vehicles vs just my truck as it is now.

I qualified for 60 months at 2.99 %.... payments would have been $260-$270 with them selling me the car at 23k and giving me 10k for my truck as a trade.

Yeaaa.... I have thought about it a lot. I love the thrill of driving the car..Not even going fast, but the ride height, sound of the exhaust, manual transmission... Its a blast....but for that I would be giving up my daily comfort.

Thats what I was leaning towards. If worse comes to worse... I sell the vette, pay of the remainder of the loan and use the rest as a down payment on another nice truck.

Looks like this is all a mute point now, I called today and was informed that someone has placed a deposit on the car and is no longer available.

I traded in an 04 SIlverado crew cab on my Vette. Then wrangled a deal with my son to get my old 93 SWB Chevy back from him so now I have a badass Vette and a cool pickup to haul dirtbikes in.

Except my dirtbike has a tag on it for street use too.
