I'm thinking of painting/dyeing my dash and all interior trim pieces torch red. I want to know if anyone has any expereince doing this and how it turned out. I don't care what people think of an all red interior, cause it's just a personal choice. GM has a history of producing solid red interiors on thousands of Vettes through it's production. There have been a few C5's with the interior made into a complete Torch red color.
My concern is how durable and were you pleased with it when done?
The SEM dyes are good, but like everything else, prep is everything. Dying interior can be a nightmare because of the use of silicone containing products. DX330 from PPG, Acetone, lacquer thinner (used carefully) and then apply bulldog adhesion promoter, then your dye.
I used in on my lower door section. It came out nice, however I have a set of full black leather door panels on order from Dennis @ DD Mods to match up with the new leather I installed. Prep is key. I don't know if I would try tackling the dash.
I intend to use the best products and really work to degrease (remove silicone) and all contamination possible from all surfaces and let gas off and dry out BEFORE attempting any dyeing. I WILL be very thorough and adhere to the preparation instructions.
The dash is easy to remove and is the #1 part to be Torch Red. My problem will be to decide on a satin clearcoat or a glossy one.
sem worked good for me...lots of prep work...I redyed the entire enterior because sem had a darker black than factory. I wouldnt do a gloss clear...just use some interior treatment of your choice for the desired shine

Rick - if you do this please document the process from start to finish. Would be interesting to see what all is involved.
Yea, it's going to be a pain, but only because of my limited shop space. I'll have to disassemble the interior and shove the car outside so I can set up the sawhorses to prep and dye/paint the pieces over the next week of doing the project.
