This past couple of weeks have been incredible! My car has been absolutely perfect in running and looking fine! It's so fun to drive it everyday when it's that way. But last night I pull it into the driveway and suddenly the A/C compressor starts making a clanking type of sound when it's on. When it's off everything is fine. So I guess it's just time for a new compressor......later when I get the dough for a $450 Delphi unit from O'Reilly's Auto Parts Store.
It's perfect weather for no A/C now, I'll probably need it in August though.
Bummer You know, I had pretty much decided that I was never goig to own another used car. I would rather have a monthly car payment that was budgeted than have unexpected bombs going off in my checkbook from auto repairs. I was 16 months into a 39 month lease on a 2010 Altima, (a great car by the way), when the vette bug bit. All of my ruminating about the practical course of action went down the drain. Now I have a monthly payment on an 11 year old car that I know is going to need the occasional repairs. There may come a day when I feel a little regret about this decision but one thing's for sure. When I was doing the practical thing, I never had this much fun! Sorry about your AC but I bet you still have the corvette grin. Right?

Oh never mistake my post as a complaint in the negative sense....EVER.
My love for this C5 is FOREVER! Even with it's freckles, whizzes, or minor malfunctions. You couldn't pry this car away from me with a gun or a pile of cash.

Sometimes things just break down - at least it did happen when the temps are moderate instead of the 100+ degree days of summer. Good luck with the repair.

I know it's a 14 year old car and things don't last forever......
Ive had my car almost 3 months and it seems like its always something.
Today I get in and start it with door open. I close the door and seat didnt adjust so I hit the memory button and AC cuts off. I turned it back on. Then had to get out of car and when I got back in and closed the door, the AC shuts off. It turned back on but geez, where does it end?
Oh and I forgot to mention that the mainshaft in the M6 snapped in half (60k miles) before I made the first payment.
SFC - something like this happened to me a few years back on my Chevy truck. I thought it was the compressor as well but it turned out to be the Idler Pully. It would only start making those loud clunking noises when it was under load. Maybe something to look into before you tear down your AC system. Good Luck!

Unfortunately, that is something we are going to have to deal with owning "older" cars. As these cars age, it is inevitable that parts are going to start to fail simply due to age despite the mileage/usage. Between my'01 C5 and my'95 Monte Carlo,it seems like something is going wrong every week! My windshield washer pump just went out on my Monte! with only 44k miles!
I guess we will be like those Air Force Reserve and Air Guard Maintainers taking care of aging machines that still kick @ss. It will just take a little more time and more frequent TLC to keep em Code 1 and on the road.....oh, and $$$ too.

I was used to arriving at Fort Hood and getting my M60A3 issued and finding a dozen things that needed servicing and repaired. After operations and firing there were another dozen things that needed repairing BEFORE they would take it back. But I loved being a Tank Commander and wouldn't have traded that expereince for anything!
