Default Another Lowering Question...

I performed a search and read through the various threads, however I'm still getting conflicting infomation, so I want to pose the question again as the answer may have been buried somewhere...

What is the total difference (in inches) that you can lower the C5 Corvette on stock bolts? Assuming the car is at normal height, what is the maximum amount (in inches) that the car can be lowered?

Also, is there a measurement per rotation or thread count to work against?

Thanks!

I would guess that it would be about an inch all the way down on stock bolts.

I lowered mine last week. 1 inch max on the stock bolts sounds about right. 1/8 of an inch give or take is not a big deal.

That's also within the range that GM recommended. Any more than that and you're into the realm of form over function. It wasn't my choice.
I got about 3/4" all the way around with the front bolts turned all the way and 3 threads showing in the rear.

Mine was the same, 5/8 in on the front and 3/4 in on the rear. Doesnt sound like much, but made a big difference in the overall look.

I'm curious why you didn't lower the same amount on both the front and back?

I would like to try and narrow the gap a little between the tire and fender, however I had previously lowered all the way on stock bolts and I was scraping everywhere so I raised it up again. Now I'm wondering how much a difference would be to lower it 1/2" or 5/8" all the way around?

That is the maximum on with the stock bolts. The rears adjusted more than the fronts.

It made the car level out. I like it this way.

Is lowering really as easy as just turning the one bolt on each end of the cross spring?

I just lowered mine on the stock bolts a couple of weeks ago and got ~3/4" in the back and 1/2" in the front.

Make sure you soak them well in penetrating oil or WD-40 the day BEFORE you try turning them!

It took mine 2 to 3 weeks before it took a final set. I can see no reason for it, but that's how it worked out.

3/4" rear & 1/2-5/8 front is about right, the rear I think will lower more,
I made a wooden gauge to check my wheel well heights, and set them at 27" front & 28" rear, easier than a measuring tape.

Depends on the car, it's age, miles, options etc... Some are stiffer than others and will not give as much of a drop.

I had an 03 Coupe, base suspension, dropped a good full inch. It was noticeable, looked great.

My 04 Z06, hardly any drop at all, 1/4" max. Ended up swapping the bolts for lowering bolts.
