Hello, I was detailing my grandmas Vert a few days ago and got to the wheels. I cannot tell if they were chromed or were the original high polished aluminums. My grandpa, the original owner, had passed a long time ago, and my grandma doesn't recall whether or not they are originals. There looks to be very minor peeling on the lip of one rim, im not sure if it is clearcoat or chrome that has peeled. One thing I noticed is that the center caps have no logo. Was that how some came from the factory, with no logo? How can I tell if they are chromes or the original high polished alumnums? Thanks
Lots of posts on this stock C5 thinspokes are polished aluminum with a clear coat dont use anything on them but soap and water or you will ruin the finish even worse. If you pull them off they should have a GM stamped in them

Probably aftermarket chrome if they're peeling and theres not a logo on the center caps. Pictures would help us tell.
No logo points to aftermarket, a photo would help determine it.
Peeling chrome, well that could go either way. My OEM Escalade rims are peeling like a banana in a monkey cage. Just bought a new set since they look like crap now.

The original factory high polished wheels had a logo on the centercaps. If the wheels were chrome and it was peeling, you would be able to tell the difference between that and say a clear coat peeling.
GM did not offer chrome wheels on the C5 from the factory, but there are factory wheels that have been chromed aftermarket. In addition, many vendors sell reproduction chrome wheels for the C5.

Thank you. The two little spots that have peeled do not look like a thin coat has peeled. It looks like bare metal where the finish is gone. If I find out for sure it is chromed, would a rim shop be able to strip it and return it to factory specs. If so, how is the logo applied?
