I'd like to get my console refinished. But the small panel ahead of the Console armrest which holds the Traction control switch as well as the F55 magnetic switch and the gas door switch all that and the passenger seat belt light needs to come off to have the panel itself refinished. Anybody ever take one of these buggers apart ? I'm not too sure about my mechanical abilities lately ? Thank you !
Open the center console door, slip your fingers behind the T/C pannel and pull it off. It's that easy. The back part can be taken apart with a couple of small flat head screw drivers.

Gas door switch is located in the center console under the armrest lid, not on the T/C, Selective Ride and Pass Air Bag Off panel. The T/C panel just pops out - a thin flat blade screwdriver inserted under the edge will pop it right out. If you are looking to also paint that part, it can be done and you can have a sign shop print you up some decals to replace the lettering on that panel. If you'd like a pic of how mine was done, let me know. And yes, the back of that panel can come apart, but be careful as some of the parts come loose pretty easily and some do not want to come out so easily.
The wires for the gas door switch are pretty short. Make sure the plug stays in place upon reassembly. It sucks to put everything back together and realize there's no power to the switch. I extended my wires 5" to avoid this problem from happening again.

Damn, that is a great idea! Can't believe I didn't think of that all the times I've struggled with it. I vote you for MODMAN 2012 AWARD!

Here's some pics of my traction control/passenger air bag off console plate that I had my nephew paint for me. When doing the painting, he obviously had to remove the factory lettering on the plate, so the pics show the decal that a local sign shop made for me to put the lettering back on. Yes, it is a slight difference in color between the EB paint and the blue on the decal (the flash makes it look worse than it really is), but it was as close as we could get it. Still looks good.
Only problem he experienced in painting the plate is around the air bag light - was very hard to tape that off so it ended up having a gap between the blue paint and the plastic light housing. I filled in that gap using some thin black pinstripping tape - doesn't look bad at all.
Here's a pic of the decals - had a few extra made just in case a replacement is ever needed.
And here is the fog light/trunk switch that he painted.
He did take the fog light/trunk switch apart to paint the outside of it - I ended up having to use some two part epoxy glue around where the two halves came together to ensure the two sides of the housing would stay together.
