I know we all like our corvettes. Some may go to the extreme in my personal opinion, but it is their car.. We all talk about modifications to our cars. Some believe keeping it stock is the best way to go and others believe making it their own is what's best for them. Here is my question....
When your rebuilding your motor is most likely the best time to really make all the modifications you really want.. Although many of us do it a little at a time.. Would you keep the stock LS1 or would you upgrade to a new LS6? Maybe we could also look at the Callaway or Lingenfelter modifications which can cost up to $40,000? Would you pay to have the name Callaway or Lingenfelter or just keep the LS1 the way it is?
It all depends on where a person's interest lies. Not much has changed since the glory days of Muscle cars when it comes to mods.
Some stay stock, some want to compete at the track and others just want bragging rights.
For me I will most likely keep mine stock. It can still compete fairly well with the LS2. I would lose by what, a car length or maybe a car and a half at most, considering all drivers equal? I can live with that. It has more power than I will ever use.
But I can appreciate the folks who build or swap out. If money was not an object I would upgrade it in HP to a Z06. But that would be it. And that really isn't that expensive to do. I just got tired of modding with Muscle cars myself. It's expensive, things break, and it's time consuming.
And I've seen way too many people concentrate on engine and let other stuff go and end up breaking trannies and rearends and you name it.
saw it on last years Power Tour. Some guy built his camaro and left the tranny and rearend alone and stripped his spider. Heck of a thing to happen just to be showing off.

Yeah let's talk about oil instead, or lowering a C5, or do you like BSM's. Or would you choose a C5 or C6. Or that dang LEO set me up, really I was being good. Or hey, look at my shiny wheels.

Start out with a plan for what you want the car to end up as when you are finished. To many people start out making mods and then take those off and go another direction. Each time they do this they lose money and time.
Your plan may allow you to do this in steps, or it may require a fair amount of money and down time all at once. Either way, you will end up with what you want if you stick to your plan.

If the LS1 was still in good shape, I would probably just upgrade some of the components in it (like cam, heads, etc) and probably end up with more HP than an LS6. I know I wouldn't spend $20-30K in engine mods to have a Callaway or Lingenfelter badge on the car.

Is your ls1 worn out? If it is still rebuildable, you should be able to beef it up much stronger than an LS6 for the same price as just buying an LS6 crate motor. As far as I know, the only real difference between an LS1 and LS6 is heads, cam, and intake.
