Default Help! Column locked

I got a buddy with a 2000 coupe and his column locked.
The first message was take key out for ten seconds and retry.he did that and car started but then message was service column lock.
We tried disconnecting battery but no luck yet.
I cant remember how to fix this.anybody got ideas

Got it fixed.punched the steering wheel and it freed right up :-)

Now, before it locks again get a hold of Richard at www.complianceparts.com. Have him send you the relay. It works better on some 2000's than the other version.

Obviously a temperary fix.owner is checking into recall and lock bypass etc...

Have him have the battery checked to make sure it's at full recommended capacity. Battery issues are a major cause of column lock in spite of what people say.

he do the recall, he can end up with the K harness and the mandated 2 mph cut off. Then he will eventually enjoy the cut off hitting him when pulling or backing out of the drive sometimes. Don't waste you time.. spend a little money with Richard. It totally by-passes the wiring to the column lock.Will take about 15 to 20 minutes maximum and alot less hassle.
