I've been going nuts trying to find a way to get the inside of the Z06 wheels clean without removing them. I've more damn brush's and pads that don't work or fit.
Anyway what I came up with is this. The thing they use to lubricate the bead of the tire before it is mounted. It is made out of the same material as a wash mitt, so it will hold soap. It is about 8-9" in length and will fit between the caliper and wheel. The handle is twisted wire about 5" long, I wrapped it in duct tape so it wouldn't scratch the wheel.
That's my story, it works!!
I use a toilet bowl brush every 2-3 weeks. Works great! You still have to move the car fwd some. It can't get behind the front caliper.
I just had my car up in the air to change the oil and replace the diff fluid with some amsoil. So I removed all 4 wheels, cleaned them up real good and put 3 coats of Zaino Z2 w/ ZFX inside and out on each wheel. Most of the brake dust will wash away with a hose now. Still will have to clean them but not as often. They look very good also!
I use a baby bottle brush. Its long enough to reach the depth of the wheel and has a plastic coated handle. I won't hold soap though. :seeya You can also buy some small diameter clear plastic hose at the auto parts store, split it down the length and snap it over the wire handle on the brush. If you want to get real fancy you can buy shrink tube at Radio Shack and use that also.
I made my wheel brush (sponge) from a terry cloth covered sponge. I found at Trak Auto. So I cut the end and pulled the sponge out. Then using a utility razor blade I slit one end about 3/4 the way into the sponge. I then inserted a paint stick and drilled two holes through the sponge and stick. Used nylon string and secured the sponge to the stick. Then slipped the terry cloth cover back over the sponge and sewed the end up. It works! I can now clean 80% of the inside of the wheel. I still have to move the car 3 feet to clean what I could not get behind the caliper. :hat
