Default LS6 Oil Temp Question

Being new to the Z06 world and having a little knowledge about motors, I would like to poll everybody about oil temp. I am currently running an oil temp from 202 - 208 with at a normal coolant temp of 180. It's a stock LS6 with a F.A.S.T. manifold and a Halloway intake with larger injectors.

First, is this a normal oil temp? Second, does anyone run or recommend running an oil cooler?

I use to run an oil cooler on my 1967 GTO with a 427 L88, but I was doing a lot of drag racing at the time.

Thanks ahead of time for all of you input.

Thats normal for normal driving. Spirited driving will get it up in the 230`s & higher. Also the outside temp will have a bearing.

I wouldn't run an oil cooler unless you plan on tracking it. Before I got one at the track I was hitting 300 degrees. Now with cooler I'm staying at around 255 most sessions.

You're actually running cooler than a stock car with stock tune typically does, so no need to worry.

Yes, I second that. I also keep the oil temp on my DIC or in my Heads Up display. I also run Mobile One Syn. I think Mobile One has been tested on these LS6's and proven to be a very good choice. At least the factory thinks so.

I dont know what your intake setup is like but,MY PERSONAL SETUP, with the radiator shroud opened, certainly decreases the engine temps dramatically. Also adjust the fans to come on sooner if you have a hand held tuner. This would be a huge help when the temps hit 80+degrees.

My Callaway CAI with adjusted fan on/off temps runs plenty cool.

But like I said, you and I and the OP are all running cooler than a stock-tuned Z06 (where I consider fan temps as part of the tune).
