i'm in the middle of swapping out my vavle springs.. i ordered the proform dual valve spring tool (67605) and it doesnt work.. the allen bolts are too short and even if i used the stock rocker bolts, the whole unit seems too tall once installed to compress the spring.. after contacting Proform, they said i have an LS3/7/9 tool.. i've read on the forum that many ppl used this tool to swap out their springs.. if anyone has used this tool with success, plz let me know..
You must be doing something wrong because that's the one I used. Did you take all the rockers off before you started? There is a piece between the rockers and the head that needs to come off.
No, just started with one cyl at a time... I think taking everything off will work.. Gonna try when I get home tonite.. Thanks for the quick reply and your help

Ya one cyl. at a time won't work. You'll see why. I used air to hold up the valves. Once the rockers are off all the valves will seat and hold pressure. I am sure 80 psi is fine but I just ran straight from the compressor at 120 psi. It'll shove the piston down in most cases but it doesn't matter. Keep the rockers in order if you aren't doing anything else.

thanks for your help!! when i swapped springs last time, i had a tool to do one spring at a time..this time, it was the first for using a dual spring compressor.. and SUCCESS!! for anyone doing this swap, it will only work with all the rockers off and with the rocker stand off.. also, the base of the tool is used with the beveled side of the allen bolt hole facing down.. once i got all figured out, the swap was a breeze.. i also used my compressor with a shut off valve tool i made at home depot..
thank you for the picture.. this is how the tool is used correctly. the rocker arms and rocker arm stand MUST be removed.. so the tool that i got from proform (67605) DOES work on LS1/6 engines..
thanks again for the help..
got it all done today and took it for a ride.. no problems and runs like a champ!!
What does "the piece that has to come off" look olike?
If you mean the one under the rockers, it's a strip of metal about 3/4" wide and the length of the head which you can't miss once all the rockers are removed. Poke around with your search engine for valve springs and look at the differences in the pictures. Or I might (if I remember) see if there's a pic of it in my manual tomorrow.
