This is probally a stupid question but do I need to order new valve stems with my new tire purchase. The tire pressure sensors are my valve stems correct? Thanks

If they are the originals I would replace them, And seeing you are getting new tires is the time to do it.
What year is your car? GM use 2 different ones, The early ones are very costly.
Tire Rack had the best price when I bought mine.

I'm not sure if they are the originals or not, but the car is a '97 so they are the costly ones. Thanks

Yes, your tire pressure sensors are attached to the valve stem in your car - it is an integral unit. Since you do not know if they are original or not, there is no telling how long they have been in the car. There is a date code molded into the case of each sensor, but you have to break the tire down to see the code. If it were me, I'd probably just replace them and be on the safe side.
One other option you can do is contact Gene at gmpartshouse.com and get the conversion kit to change your sensors to the less expensive '01-04 ones. The cost is a little less than just replacing the original '97-00 sensors.
