Default Another fuel pump?

Had the fuel pump and sending units replaced in Dec. 2012

....now it may need to be done all over again at GMs expense of another $2500...just had it towed this morning...

Anyone ever seen a new pump go out in 4 months

And no its not the mechanics fault for part failure...he is a great mechanic...

But that also means another year of warranty on the fuel pump...so its all good on my part.

Had the one on my old Escort go out twice in about 5 months, second time the mechanic asked if I drive the car until "E" or the light comes on. He explained that the pump was in the tank and gets cooled by the gas, empty tank, no gas to cool pump, pump burn out. After that I always kept at least a 3rd tank, never had any other problems, until my son totaled the car and that was after another 75K miles.............Not saying that this is your problem, could just have been a defective new pump.

Absolutely. It can be fine for four months and be defective, or at least weak enough when installed that no fuel in tank and overheating could cause it to fail.

No idea whats involved, and Im sure they checked the fuel filter, so thats not clogged and straining it, but could there be a kink (dent) in a gas line somewhere thats causing the pump to work harder? Probably not the case if you ever drive it at WOT for a mile or so (a kink like that would starve the engine at that load but maybe not if always driven gently).

Just a thought.

Good luck.

It can't be a defective pump. The new one hasn't been installed yet.

I lost a brand new fuel pump on a C-4 (1996) in about five months. And yes, it was a name brand.

Thanks for the genuine helpful thought

Update...
I am posting this lengthy description in hopes of helping someone with the same problem of cranking but no start possibly checking that connection that made mine not start...

I went to watch work on my Vette today and the mechanic let me watch for 2+ hours as he completely investigated and hunted down the problem...the fuel pump was not the problem...it was an electrical problem...no juice getting to the pump...he tested ever wire possible and finally found the culprit...right next to the battery there is a 10 pin connector and when he seperated the connector we both saw the pin that was not making contact...it actually had dark shadowing around the female part and when he put the plug together again and wiggled it it was like magic...so he replaced the male and female connector parts and bingo...no more problem...I watched him test the fuel pump and every other system with his tech 2 and other instruments for 2-3 hours and he only charged me for 1 hour labor and didn't even charge for the new part...wtf? I told him my antenna was a little crooked and he went to the parts dept and got an entire new assembly and he put it in within 30 mins and charged it to warranty...again...wtf? Amazing how everyone bitches about dealerships/stealerships...I just had a really good experience...and hell yes I tipped him a C note...yep $100 and when I saw the bill and saw that they even covered the towing for me(another wtf?) I think they were trying to get me to continue bringing my vehicles to them...anyway...I'm a happy camper

ok moderator please close this thread...it has served its purpose and we wouldn't want any more ot jerks coming in here trying to be funny... thinking they are funny
