Follow what the DIC says, it's there for that reason, or per the manual change once a year.
My current oil change has 5,000 miles on it (Mobil 1/Wix filter) and the DIC says 42% oil life remaining. It's my DD (mostly highway miles) and I just follow the DIC. I'll typically let it go to about 10% or so depending on how close to a free Saturday that falls.
I have used Mobil 1 in my vehicles (and boat) for some 20 years or more. For my daily drivers I change the filter every 3000 miles (and top up with oil) and do a complete oil change with filter every 12,000 miles. Mobil 1 is supposed to be good for around 25,000 miles with filter changes in between.
For my toy box cars like the C5 I change the filter every 3000 miles (and top up with oil) and do a complete oil change with filter every 6000 miles.
For some toy box cars that don't get used much, I do a filter and oil change every 2 years. This is based on the miles being at or less than 3000 miles.
I too, have used Mobil-1 in both of my cars, the 2007 Pontiac and the 2003 Corvette for since new. I don't go over 7 thousand on either so at the end of summer I take each one in for PA state inspection and a Mobil-1 5W/30 & Mobil 1 filter change each year. But you can never go wrong by sticking to your owners manual recommendations. GM knew what the cars are like, they built them. And Mobil-1 is in every Porsche that leaves the Frankfurt factory. I'm not going to question GM and Porsche engineers.
Last Nov. I bought a 2002 roadster. It had 11 oil and filter changes by 11/2/ 07 and 2807 mi. on it. Documented by 1st owner. 2nd owner who I bought it from put 1250 mi. on it by 11/20/11 documented when I ought it . He changed the oil in the fall of 2010. I got the car out winter storage and no I didn't change the oil. I only menion this because people this is a waste money.
Once a year is enough when your not putting any mi. on it.

is that why the owners manual doesnt specifically call for mobil 1 but instead calls for any oil that meets GM specs?

Yes, Forgive my mistake. And no-where on or near the car or it's owners manual is it stated Mobil-1 5W/30 usage. I'm just basing my statement on how they assemble Corvettes @ Bowling Green where they did and still do fill the motors with Mobil-1 Motor oil. I never meant to imply that Mobil-1 is in anyway special. Oils that meets GM4718M specs. are the only special specified motor oil in their engines. but there are others. But for me, I use Mobil-1 5W/30 and only change the oil & filter once a year based on my usage. Very sorry if my statements upset anyone's feeling.

Cubman, I looked at that spreadsheet in your link and really had a good laugh. Four separate oil and filter changes with 6 or less miles on the oil (one with absolutely no miles having been driven)!!! That's a friggin' waste of money. I don't care if a year has elapsed, oil doesn't degrade just sitting in the oil pan.
