id like to see the page on the owners manual there where it specifically says sythn. normally they just give a standard like the GM 4718. It just so happens that the only oils that meet the standard are synth.
.... never mind found it. This is what the 2002 camaro actually says about synthetic oil. Ill attach a link to the manual so people can look it up for themself.

If you are in an area where the temperature falls
below -20F (-29C), consider using either
an SAE 5W-30 synthetic oil or an SAE 0W-30 oil.
Both will provide easier cold starting and better
protection for your engine at extremely
low temperatures.
For normal use all it is says is.
Engine oil with the American
Petroleum Institute Certified for
Gasoline Engines starburst symbol
of the proper viscosity.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I use Mobil One 5W30 oil and either Mobil One or Purolater filters
OBD
Actually, you can always find a namebrand synthetic oil on sale at Walmart. Just this weekend, I found Quaker State Synthetic for 26 bucks for 5 litres. They also had Pennzoil Platinum for the same price.
