Need Help
Hi all need opinions here. I found a 2003 Z06 black on black with 20,000 miles on it. I havent seen it yet. Guy is asking 18,000 but it has salvage title. What do you guys think? Thanks

I'm generally not a fan of cars with salvage titles. But here are a few things to consider....
1. Why the salvage title? Was it a serious wreck/repair and then who performed the repairs? What was the extent of the damage?
2. Do you plan to ever sell the car - you will encounter the same difficulties selling the car as the current owner.....if you plan to keep it, then what difference does it make?
3. What are your plans for the car? Are you going to make it a daily driver or are you planning to use the car as a track car?
4. Will your insurance company insure the car for full coverage - some won't. You need to check this first if you want comprehensive and collision (physical damage). If you only want liability coverage, will they offer that, and if so is there a limit or extra premium?
5. Get a comprehensive check out of the car by someone familiar with C5's top and bottom, inside and outside.
6. There are likely cars with similar mileage and equipment for comparable money that have "clean titles", check around....they're out there.

Hi all thanks for quick replies. Just got back from looking at the car. Car was rearended insurance totaled it because the owner would not accept it repaired he apparently had just bought it. Current owner purchased it with the salvaged title. Has had it about 8 yrs. From what I could see only visible signs of damage slight imperfection left rear quarter between quarter and top. Has upgraded brakes and wheels but all else stock. Car shows very well but the owner is firm on price so I guess I keep looking. Thanks blacksedan for input I appreciate it. All good points. Again thanks all but I think the hunt for a c5 is still on.

You probably made the right decision. For that car to be totaled it had some major damage. And it's not always up to the owner whether they accept an insurance offer or not. Without knowing the actual details it's hard to say if the insurance company was just working him or the damage was close enough they could go either way. That happened on my wife's Camry when she hit a deer.
She could have accepted the repair but decided she would rather just replace it and the damage was close enough for the insurance company to agree.
But like I said, it had to have had extensive damage and 18 is too much for my blood on this particular car. Actually way to much. 14 I "might" consider it.

Has to be more to the story about why it has a salvage title. I doubt I would pay $18K for the car even with only 20K miles on it with that type of title.
