Hey all, I'm under going a few projects on the vette..... hehe.. I laugh because they keep piling up and running on....
I've gutted her, painted in some sound deadening, waiting on more sound deadening material, re-routing wires for carpc and speakers, etc..
and now, pulling out alarm system put in by previous owner (8 - 9 years ago) and installing a new system..
So, while un hooking current alarm system and tracking wires down i noticed two wire (yellow and purple) that were cut and go to a "module" behind the clutch/brake any clues as to what that module is? pics below
I'm guessing it has something to do with the alarm system they put in, it does have a remote start (the vette is a manual) so is this some crude override?

Not an alarm guy but thats a good bet.
Does it start with the key whithout stepping on the clutch? (or is that normal for a manual vette...mines auto?)

Not alarm related. It's the clutch switch and requires the clutch pedal be depressed to start the car.
Those two wires (either one can be used), are sometimes used to install a hidden "kill switch" somewhere in the car so even if someone had a key, the car would not start as long as the switch was flipped.
With the use of relays, you can make anything in the car, a hidden kill switch. (ie. cigarette lighter, window switch, door lock/unlock, fog light switch, etc....)
Those wires were probably used for the clutch bypass in a generic Remote Start Alarm system. Though possible, and done frequently, I don't recommend putting a remote start in any vehicle with a manual transmission. All it takes is one try with the vehicle in gear to really ruin your day. Over my past 12 yrs as a Certified Installer, I've seen the too many incidents. All of which were from customers stating, " I never leave my car in gear". Just my 2 cents, I will step away from the podium now.

Thanks all! Yea it does have a remote start (installed by previous owner) and yea, it will start without clutch.... and yes unfortunately I have started it remotely while in gear.... thing rears and lurches forward then dies, and tries to restart itself! Over the 6 -7 years I've had it, I've only done that once....
Yea, there is a bank of relays stuffed under the dash I am looking at and tracing.... should be fun! Does anyone happen to have an electrical layout for an alarm system install, i'm searching the12volt.com, some good stuff there, but was hoping someone has done something similar recently.
Thanks again!!

What year is your vette? Never mind, I see 2000 in your block. Let me pull it up for you
Thanks RayDawg! Hey, I'll actually be in your neck of the woods this weekend, in SA. We are coming up for the CrossFit regionals, should be a good time!
