Default New Amp rack build (in progress)

Since the amp rack in my 97 underwent 3 renovations after it's initial construction, it was never really the same after. As a result, i decided to scrap it and start over. The system I designed for my 02 however is exactly how I want it to be and I designed the amp rack to do just that

One of the main features I wanted in the new setup was a setup that could be easily removed. The last design was pretty much wired into the car and took a tremendous amount of effort (including wire cutting) to remove it. The new design features quick disconnects for RCAs, Speaker wire and (believe it or not) main power and ground wires) Should the rack need to be removed, All i need to do is unbolt it from the Anchor-board, and disconnect the wires.

Next, I was really displeased with my ability to use carpet. I decided to try covering the MDF material in ABS laminate. I will be using ABS/MEK mixture to seal the seams resulting in a finish that matches most of the dash components of the car.

The new rack will be similar to the old one in that it will feature an active cooling system (with updated smaller, quieter, more efficient fans with a thermostat switch) It also will have wire "channels" cut into the floorboard to hide and organize the wires. ALL wires including the RCAs will be cut so a specific size. LED illumination and illuminated graphics as also on the list.

New features include Gas support arms for the lid which look and function much better than the locking hinges i used on the original. It will be holding a pair of Alpine MRP F300 Amplifiers and a Orion 5-farad Capacitor.

Here's how it looked as of yesterday:

The large holes on the sides are air inlets that will have foam filters. Unlike the original design where i had 2 intake and 2 exhaust fans, this design will have all fans running as exhaust fans.

OK, since I saw your old setup once before, I just want to know where you're going to mount your flux capacitor.

No flux capacitor on this ride....just a quantum slipstream drive

I'm bringing this back from the dead because I finally had the time to finish the project (though it will be a little while before I hear sound out of it since I still have to install the DD head unit)

Yes, there is a 3/4" MDF Anchor-board somewhere beneath the Lloyd Cargo Mat, factory carpet, 3/8" of Acoustic foam and 1/8" sound dampener.

I may need to get some longer screws though...lol

THe sound from the headers, CAI, full exh, 3.42, ported 243's, 228r etc is nice enough to keep me out of the hi-end audio upgrade. Limited mod budget so I gotta pic one, ya know? I need a 3600 stall. That will make my stock headunit look really cool to me personally.
But once again, Hats off to ya bro. SWEET!
Thanks,

Default Build Specs

I was wanting to work on my 2002 convertible amp rack this year. Have you thought about releasing a spec sheet on this build for the forum?
Great job on the workmanship.

Thanks

As a huge audiophile, all my cars have modified systems, this is beyond impressive. Gives me ideas once I secure my C5.
