Default automatic transmision problems, slipping

Greetings corvetteforum members. I tried using the search but only came up with high mileage transmission problems. My car is very low miles and drove perfectly before the problems came up so bear with me, here goes my story.

I purchased a 99 vette with 30,000 miles recently and the previous owner told me there was a very small transmission leak most likely from not driving it often. Shortly after the purchase I took the car to my mechanic and he suggested to change the transmission pan gasket, filter and fluids to see if that is the cause. After changing that it continued to leak. The car drove perfectly fine. Now my mechanic dropped the transmission and replaced all of the seals, cleaned the connector and filled it up with new transmission fluid. Took it on the freeway up to 60mph everything was running normal. Tried to take it to 65mph and only the rpm goes up but not the speed. Exited off the freeway and jumped back on the other direction the car wouldn't go past 50mph. Got off the freeway and drove locally back to the shop and the fastest I could go was 20mph, if i attempt to go faster only the rpm goes up. On the way back to the shop the warning light went on and the transmission temp was at 234 degrees. Its weird because everything was fine before the seal change. Any ideas guys?

Im wondering how does the 3-4 clutch pack go bad with just a seal/fluid change?

I agree "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but the leak was progressively getting worse so I had to fix it. I don't understand how it goes bad with a fluid/seal change.

He probably didn't clean the pan and all the dirt and grime in there settled to the bottom and once it was ran, it was all sucked up.

Step #1 - Check fluid level.

There is also some history on bad filters with a vacuum leak between the filter body and the inlet to the transmission suction port. If the fluid level is good, check the filter before deciding on a rebuild.

Speaking from past experience, the C-5 transmission has a history of
problems esp. 3rd gear . Everybody has piled on your mechanic
but you probably had a problem with your tranny before he
started to work on it. The temp. you were running is definately
a no-no. Better to pull over and let the tranny cool down.
I hope things work out well for you.
