if an additive is that great...don't you think the oil your adding it to would already have it in there?
There's a lot of additives in oil. But with the ever increasing desire for profits some of them are disappearing. especially the detergeants.
Good quality fuel also has additives. Like techron in chevron. Their additive is so good they rebrand it and sell it as an additive. People here fall over themselves getting to the store to stock up on that.
I find it hard to believe companies like Lucas and Slick 50 have been in business for years selling stuff that is of no use. Just because an oil meets the oem requirements doesn't mean it's the best thing that can be used.
I personally think a good oil like Mobile one or Royal Purple is most likely adequate. But until a car reaches the 200-500K club one will never know the true value or benefit. because it's there the benefit and value is realized.
So from 0 to 150K miles? Most people will never keep a car longer than that to find out.
But I'm not going to argue one way or the other because I don't know, but I won't assume it's all junk. I think most people claim it's of no use because for the typical car buyer/owner it probably isn't.
Bruton Smith owns the dealership that I work at and also owns Z-MAX , so of course we have to put it all of our used cars. We in the shop and parts department was wondering if the stuff really does soak into the metal like they say it does. We took a flat piece of metal about 1/2 inch think and put a drop of z-max on it and the next day it had soaked all the way in to the other side . I do use it in my cars in both the oil and the fuel and have had no problems. I dont want to step on anyone toes on here but from what i have seen it seems to work.
Zmax is a pretty cool drag strip in Charlotte NC, I wouldn't put it in my engine though. Used oil analysis on the both the mobil i put in my C5 and the amsoil i put in my C3 say that they do not need any additives.
It might be good for test and tune night and grudge matches,,but for watching professional NHRA drag racing,,,it sucks a BIG one!! If you are really into watching racing,,it is impossible to catch the hole shots and they don't display the reaction times on the TV coverage during this massive clusterF**K!! Thank god they only run there once a year. The drivers HATE it,, and the drivers association was ready to boycott future events, but after Smith threatened NHRA with pulling support for other events(he owns several tracks) EVERYBODY started backpedaling and saying how interesting it was! The only NHRA event I actually have to make myself watch!!

Was just reacting to the Bruton Smith (Zmax owner) built an interesting raceway in N.C. Comment!
The "4 Wide Nationals" where they are running 4 lanes instead of 2 lanes at "ZMAX Raceway" in Charlotte,NC owned by Bruton Smith. Trying to watch 4 fuelers or Pro Stocks run at the same time is chaos! After the first event they all hated it,,even the winners. After the event Smith pitched a hissy fit and threatened the NHRA with pulling this and other events that he controlled. Suddenly the drivers back peddled (at the orders of NHRA),now they give it faint praise in there post win interviews. Example,,the Pro Stock winner stated something like,,"I didn't like it,,but I've won two of them now so I guess I kinda like it"
There must be a HELL OF A profit margin in this stuff,,Smith tore down an old strip and built this one from the ground up,,and owns a large interest on several other strips and was talking of building more 4 lane strips! I hope not!! It's organized confusion trying to watch 4 cars at a time trying to pre-stage,stage and get a hole shot and win the round!
Shelby does Not make a dime off Z max. Now nascar track builder/ owner Bruton S.... thats another story.
I'll have to throw the BS flag on that one. Shelby sold out a long time ago and is trying to make as much $$ as he can before he's dead.
Its snake oil and he knows it......
And if you believe that Shelby uses z-max and doesnt get paid to endorse it. then I guess Joe Theismann really does walk around in shape-ups....

Shelby never owned any part of Z max!!!! How's Snookie doing? I know little about her & apparently you know little about Shelby.
I think you can do a search under Zmax and find an FTC complaint serveral years ago in which the FTC claimed that the Zmax advertising could not be proven. They required Zmax to stop the promotional claims at that point.
I think I read something recently on how Z-max caused corrosion on bearings during a test. It would make sense since there are several corrosion inhibitors added to approved motor oils to avoid such problems. This is something to think about when adding any non-approved additive.
