Hello everyone! I have been following the BSM debate with much humor. In fact, over the last few days I've read most of the threads about them. It seems to be about 65% of the forum members here are in favor of taking them off and 35% wanting to keep them or put them on.
I am one C5 owner that likes the look and wants to have them installed on my Torch Red, 1999 Vert ....until I called my Toledo Corvette shop and found they want $230 in labor, $520.96 in parts and $82.50 in materials for a grand total of: $833.46.
All I can say is....WOW! And, for a mod that 65% don't even want!
Just picked up a set of take offs off of Fleabay about a month ago for 75 bucks shiped, already painted to match my pewter verte and will be cutting them and installing BSM set number 2 just a little shorter than the factory ones very soon, using 3m tape. Teh goal is the three BSM look !! haha

Did Toledo Corvette have a gun stuck in your ribs when they quoted you those prices? Those are prices someone gives you when they don't want the work.
How hard can it be? It has two-sided tape and needs to be lined up, right?
However, I do not know how to do it and until I find another outlet for the parts and someone in my area to do the work, I'll have to live without this mod.
If I may add my 2 cents worth. I have a 2000 Pewter Coupe with BSM and I think they add a really nice touch. It breaks up the side (Door) from looking like one big sheet of fiberglass.
I'm impressed that you have stats on who likes/dislikes them. The main thing is if it is a look that you like - go for it. The great thing is they are easily removable if you change your mind down the road or sell it to someone that doesn't like them.
Keep an eye out on the forum, as this is a common mod for people to remove them. Those are the ones you want to contact as soon as you read the post and see if they will sell them. Also check the Parts for seal section as well as Ebay and Craig's list.
I was on the wall too.....do I keep em' or take them off? So what I did was leave the driver's side on and removed the passenger side. Now I have the best of both worlds!!

Indeed! However, I feel that spending that kind of money makes no sense. I'll bide my time until the right deal comes along for the BSM's and I find a buddy or someone in the Toledo/Flint, MI (I go up there a lot) area that can put them on for a reasonable price.

Or something I've been thinking about, maybe I saw it here first.. removing the shortfender section and leaving the door section, I think I saw it in conjuction with screens for the fender ducts.

Thanks, I will!

Well, price them from GM and I am sure that they only come primered. So paint/material, labor to prep, paint and install. Probably about right if they quoted new parts.
Used is the only way to go but a shop isn't going to go scouring the internet for deals.
BTW, I got a set in Navy Blue that ain't goin back on.

You can find BSMs for sale here on the forum (used) for a cheap price. May have to be painted, but if you wait long enough chances are you can find some the same color as your car. And if you do find a set and need install instructions (with measurements), send a PM to me and I can get you the info.
I've got a set of Torch Red BSM's that I removed years ago and wrapped up carefully in case I wanted to reinstall. Well, that isn't happening so contact me if you want them, I'll sell them for a very reasonable price compared to your quote. PM me and be patient. I'm not on everyday but I'll get back to you.
