I'm having trouble with my key fobs, like most. I put a new battery in it reprogramed it like the manual says and it only works for a few minutes. I bought the car in Feb. the previous owner told me the fobs didn't work right, but he thought it was just the batteries. I've been reading things on the site on how to fix these but my soldering techniques aren't that good and my eye sites worse. I called the local dealer, he told me ther're no longer available, what now? I read somewhere on the site someone fixes them, but I can't find that thread. If anyone knows of it please send it my way.
I will keep looking on E Bay for one that looks good, in the mean time I'll just use my keys. If anyone is selling theirs for a 99 P. M. me please.
Skip the used ones on eBay, many will be junk.
Buy a new one for a 2000......and yes it will work on your 99 I have a 99 and did this myself. Only difference is the 2000 does not have the Passive switch, which is a good thing.
I have this issue with my 98. The e-bay one I bought works, but not correctly. The passive part has its own mind and locks & unlocks randomly, with passive off it response correctly.
I was under the impression that the early fobs and the later fobs use a different frequency.
Does anyone know if a 2000 would work with my 98? The passive fobs run anywheres from $75 - $150!
As I recall Gene sells a "kit" here that includes new receivers to convert the early C5's to the later version.
I bought a new GM key and clicker from ebay for my 2001 and they work well. I measured the resistance of the one key I had and thankfully ordered the right one. After the local dealership tried to convince me the key I bought was fake, they cut it for free. It works good. Both items together were $33.
