Default I have a budget.....

OK.

I recently got my hands on the title of my 2004 Z06. She is all MINE! No more banks..........

So. Moving along. I have had a 1987 Porsche 944S for 13 years, I had ideas of making it a track car. That has changed over the past few years and I now have an interested buyer.

In the end I hope to end up with about $6K in my pocket. ALL of which is mine to spend (I have a wife) as I see fit.

Now, supposing I were to spend a grand on my wife, and I have 5 left over.... Time for some love for the Z.

I am thinking I have always wanted a new stereo... DD mods...... Thats a grand gone.

4K left....

I want wheels. Knock offs are fine by me. I see about 1500 in wheels and tires. I plan on getting the same tires I have now, Toyo Proxes. I plan to retain the stockers for auto-x and track duty. Ill eventually grab a set of sticky track tires for this purpose.

2500 in the kitty...

Cam time? Headers? X pipe? Who do I talk to for a good set up at a good price? I'll of course need something in the end for a good tune.

I want to do some other random bits if anything is left.

Ideas, input and business solicitation is welcome!

Thanks.

I recently upgraded my stereo and it cost me over $2K...and I didn't do anything too wild. I replaced the head unit, added a 5-channel amp, replaced the speakers, and put a 10" sub in the center compartment.

BTW, if you were planning on autocrossing, the 944 S2 used to be a dominant car with the M030 optional shocks. Not sure if that is still true, but you might want to look into it prior to selling.

Yes they are. I threw a set in at that price and very happy with them. They'll cost you half what the big names sell for. That was long tubes, high flow cats, x-pipe, 3" all downstream, fitted to the Ti mufflers. Add in a dyno tune as these LS6s respond well to headers and the factory tune is a bit of a kludge. That'll cost you a bit over a grand.

For HPDE stuff, brakes, tires and cooling mods. Track Alignment

That will take care of your $ 2500.00 easy

Im not sure if you can get wheels and tires for our cars for $1500. I think you would be lucky putting a combo together for $2000. Even the cheap China crap.

As for the rest of the money... Make it faster, before you make it look better.

I was thinking the same thing. Tires alone in stock sizes are $800+, and if you want your new wheels to be a 18"/18" or 18"/19" combo, then the tires will be even more expensive. Plus, you gotta pay for mounting and balancing. So unless you're gonna score a set of wheels for ~$500 then you'll be over budget.

I would just pick one or two things and do them RIGHT. You don't want to half-*** it. Figure out what you want, maybe you do want looks over performance. It is your car. Personally, I like the stock look so I would focus on performance and/or replacing the crap Bose. If It were me, I would replace the stereo and get better seats. Those are the best two upgrades on a C5Z to me. If you have extra cash after that, look into the shifter or whatever else catches your fancy.

I would suggest spending money on mods to the driver before the car for more hp. See how she does stock and tweak from there. =)

Here is the pot, calling the kettle black. As far as power. K.I.S.S. Keep it stock silly. Better brake pads for the track ( not a big brake kit), a harness bar, a six poiint belt system, a fire suit, gloves, maybe better shocks, better oil cooling, and accusump, and more track time. None of this will affect reliability, driveability or longiviety.

If I had only $5000 to spend on a bone-stock 2004 Z06:

column lock bypass - $60
skip shift eliminator - $25
PCV catch can - $150
shifter and **** - $300
pedals - $150
seats - $1000
tires - $1000
shift light - $100
flip-tie intake mod - $20
ported TB - $100
dyno tune - $450
sound system - $1000
DRM Short Stop brake package - $500
alignment - $150

...and if I had a little more money: Hotchkis sway bars - $360

My suggestion? Keep the 944.

BUT If I had 4k to spend on a stock car I would probably look into new shifter, long tubes, new filter element, and a cam setup. Should leave you with ~1k-1.5k left - IF you do all the work yourself. The remaining could go towards replacing wear items. Shocks, bushings, brakes, seats, clutch, etc - depending on the condition of your car.

Wouldn't bother with wheels because 1. I really like look of the Z06 wheels and 2. Stockers are very good size/weight. BUT that's just me.

I just bought some Continentals DW for $923.00 installed. That doesn't include the $100 rebate. I felt like I was in enemy territory tho. I got them from the local Ford dealer. lol. Price was right.

110% Don't spend the cash on more horsepower mods.

I came in right around 1700 for wheels and tires from first rate corvette parts and Nitto tires, 18s all the way around and they not cheap china wheels. I mean there not CCW's but they look better then stock for now.

As for performance I would definitely get a set of LT headers and tune that would be a major improvement right there. As for a cam and everything I think it will exceed your budget because you will definitely want to upgrade your clutch.

There is always the people on here that want you to leave your car stock but headers is a excellent upgrade

How does that work out, you just drive your car up to the Ford dealer, and ask them for tires?

if you put a nice cam, and full lenght headers on you would not need the stereo. because it would sound sweet! more $$$$ for performance.
