I have a 1998 Corvette and someone thumped my driver's side mirror, so now it stays swiveled outward. There is no other visible damage. I have wrapped the base with clear packing tape and it works, but looks tacky, of course. Is there a breakaway pin or something readily replaceable (i.e. cheaply) that snaps on impact like this or do I need a whole new mirror? I don't want to go to a body shop without knowing in advance if I can get out for low $$, since they could just go for the gold. A Forum search didn't bring up anything on this and I have never had it happen with any other vehicle.
There is a sticky on the C5 Tech/Performance Forum that I believe covers this problem. There is a spring that is held by a flexible washer that has come off, it can be fixed. Regards

I have some files that talk about fixing the outside mirrors. If you'd like a copy, PM me your e-mail address. Please remind me that this is for the outside mirror fix in the PM.

Great! I appreciate the tip -- I was hoping it wasn't a bank-buster, sounds like it isn't a big issue.
