I am in the market for a corvette and have $30,000 to spend. I really like the 2002-04 ZO6 but have not ruled out a c6. Is there much of a difference in the performance of the c5 ZO6 and the c6 400 horsepower car? What would you choose?
Personally I prefer the shape of the C5 Z06. I got one just a couple of months ago. Low miles - 7600 - and well under your budget. I had thought of a C6 also but just felt the C5 Z was more distinctive.
C6.
Dont get me wrong i love C5's but i also love vette's in general so therefore that includes C6's.
Even if you dont get fully loaded C6 but find one thats not base then thats what id get. Then from there add mods to the C6. To have all the newer generation parts on the C6 compared to the C5 is now worth it my opinion. Your thinking about buying a car 10 years old with older technology. Technology is key and the C6 has it hands down. There both beautiful cars but modding up C6 compared to modding a C5 me personally would go with a C6. An thats coming from a guy that has 2 C5's. Ill never get rid of my C5's but my next purchase will def be a C6.
Again this is my 2 cents...
Well if you are looking at the LS2 C6, the C5 Z06 is faster. Faster around a track or in the 1/4 mile. That is per Dave Hill. Personally I love both cars, so it is a tough decision. I have owned 1 C6, and liked it, but I love the C5! And my 2 C5 Z06's, were fantastic cars.
One should note the question is posted on the C5 forum....may be a smidge of bias lol. I have a Z16 purchased for well below yr budget...with low mileage. Great value and a fabulous car. Never drove a C6 so can't fairly comment.

You will find a much lower mileage car in the C5 than a C6 for that money. But remember that a number of parts for the C5 are no longer available which might give you problems later on. I love my C5 too, but if I had the money and could find a smoking deal, I'd go for a C6.
An 02Z is still faster than an LS3 C6. Sorry, but it's true. The LS3 C6 only has a higher top speed, but the C5Z still is faster to the top. It also still out-handles the LS3 Z51. Not by much, but enough to count.
In the hands of someone that can really drive, a C5Z is faster than any stock LS2 or LS3 C6.
Stock for stock, of course. The LS3 C6 has far more potential.
coming from some1 who went from a c5z to a c6z and considering your dollar amount, Id have to say the c5z. u can find a decent 1 for 22-25 and dump the remainder into mods (supercharger maybe). as some1 stated, the c5z wins the cool factor...either way, they're both vettes and its a good decision to have to make....

I drive a blown LS6 C5 with a built A4 and a stall and the performance of the stock LS3 still impresses me. Get the best LS3 car you can afford then modify it as your budget allows.
At the price point you mention, you will find the best examples of the C5 generation well within your budget, Z06s included.
The cleanest, best kept, lowest milage C5s are there for your taking.
At the same price in the C6 market, well... go shopping, see what $30K gets you.
Plenty of power, more that enough for the street, with any C5 or C6.
After your hunting, shopping, and careful analysis, it is a safe bet jackpot, that we'll see you back here posting about the C5 you just bought.
Have the best of both worlds, C5 & C6 - Z06 (LS7-427)
My car is for sale @ $26,500. See sig. below, email me for pics if your close by.
Note! This car was built for reliability and comfort, except for a lower exhaust note (cubes), it drives like a stock car - until you hammer it. Then all hell breaks loose.
