Default Traction Control & Tire Sizes

So, I have been told and have read on this forum that the diameter of the front and rear tires should be at least 0.5inches of each other to avoid issues with TC and even a 0.6inch difference could be an issue.

Per specifications provided on GY's & Tirerack's website the diameter of the front and rear tires differ by 0.7inches.

How many people have had issues with anything less than 0.7inches?

As long as the rear tires have more diameter than the fronts, you'll be ok. The stock tire sizes (260/40/17 & 295/35/18) have a .78" diff in diameter.

My current setup (275/35/18f & 305/35/18r) has .83" diff in diameter and I have no issues whatsoever.

My former setup (273/35/18f & 295/35/18r) had a .55" diff...and no issues there at all

The .50 inch difference is a minimum, more than that doesn't have any negative effect.

I was running 275/35/18f & 295/35/19r on my C5 Z06 but went to a 285/35/19 on back now cause was trying to stay with Michelin PS2's and they dont carry a 295. Should I have gone with a 305/30/19 instead. Is the ratio still OK with the 275f & 285r ? The 305's shouldnt rub or stick out to far, will they ?

It's all about the diameter difference.

Your 275/35/18s are 25.7" in diameter &
Your 285/35/19s are 26.9" in diameter

so with a 1.2" difference you should be fine.

The 305/30/19s would have had a 26.3" diameter and would have worked fine also. The 305s have the same dimensions as the Toyo 888s I run in the 305/35/18 size and they fit fine without sticking out or rubbing.

I am planning on running 315/30/18 Hoosiers A6s on all four corners for High Speed Autox this year. If I know the track I will usually run with traction control off. Howevere there will be some tracks this year I have not run in which case I will the car in Sport Mode. Will the equal tire size affect the traction control in Sport Mode?

I run a square 295 set up and I have no problem at all on the street or on the track. AC/TC off at the track.
