I have a 99 mag-red coupe that I would like to think is in pretty nice shape imo. I have a nick that has been touched-up on my hood. I am thinking of having the hood re-painted.Just wondering if that would hurt the value of my car because the hood would no longer have the "factory finish", or should I just live with that "nick"? Thanks for any opinions.
If the nick bothers you get it fixed. Lets face it C5's are not any where need being a collectable and if and when they do, a repaint is not going to affect the price. All the Corvette's you see going over the trading block at the big events are not sporting factory original paint.
As for resale, again a repainted of or blended hood will not cause you to lose any money on the sale.
I would think that you could touch it up well enough to not be noticeable. Sometimes when you have one thing repaired something else get messed up in the process. Plus nicks on Corvette hoods are unavoidable if you drive alot, even with a mask and 3M. Just my opinion.
I would not knowingly buy a car that has been repainted in part or in whole unless I personally knew the owner and witnessed the reason for the repaint. To each his own however.
It depends on how much it bothers you and how big the nick is. I have a couple of paint chips that I worked on with some touch-up paint and got it to the level I'm satisfied with it.
Most good painters will tell you that they will want to sand the clear coat off the entire hood in order to blend in the paint and re clear coat it. That way you wont end up with paint peel in a few years.
You are looking at some expense but again if it bothers you, it will probably be worth it. After that you may want to look into a clear bra type product so you want have to go through this too often. Good luck.
I would probably try to touch it up myself. Building up the paint thickness until it is level and then a layer of clear, both applied with a touch up brush. If you use you car on the road, you will have more hood chips very soon so just get over it and save yourself some $$$.

Thanks for the replies, always looking for some good advice. It bothers me enough that I will probably get the hood re-painted.
