You want to know why I love this Design(C5's). Well a little video game called Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit allowed me test drive it (jk) and have all the fun you could ever want with that car.(legal or illegal ) This kind of shows how young I am but also that I love the C5's Coupe/Hardtops look very, very much.
I am just happy that I am going to be the position soon in the next year to be able to BUY ONE . Maybe not a young C5 miles wise(hey I am not made of money you know and I am just starting out) but I am and will be looking for one in my price range.

I drive a c-5 because I like the looks of them better than a c-6! If I wanted a c-6 I would go down to the local dealer and buy one and pay cash for it. My favorite Vette as far as looks will always be a 56-57 c-1 but they are serious money for a car that doesn't really drive that well.
i would rather have a "blown" c-5 any day over a c-6 Z bur thats just my opinion.

I bought a C5 because I like how it looks. Your average person on the street has no clue that these are no longer new cars or the latest generation. Not that what the average person thinks matters. If you, as an owner are happy with it, that is all that matters.

Funny thing.....couple guys I work with have Audi sedans. Quick cars. But they look at MY C5 as the bar for thier cars performance. I think it kills em that a guy like me who makes much less money and has a FAR cheaper car, can smoke dat ***.
Oh and I was enticed into a lil contest of speed with a new Lotus the other day. He was nowhere to be seen. Then drove up beside me and with a tilted head, looked at me and admitted defeat.

And it's like this. There are plenty of past generations out there faster than we are, it's not just the C6. they may be modded but they're still faster. I've seen c1's with an LS1 modded in them. That will skunk a C5Z06 and a C6.
Guys cars are cars. They are all cool and they're all different. That's what makes it fun.

Hang my head? Its hard to keep my nose out of the air with pride!
There are of course faster cars, however I will put my 04 C5's voluptuous curves against anything. With as few miles as it has, Those who "don't know" are amazed it is not brand new, and I have had numerous C6 owners talk about the looks and the road feel of the C5 being superior. *I'm not knocking the 6's; I drove them, and liked them a lot, when it came time to get what I wanted, well...
All Vettes are great, but I bought what I loved.

garrel.770 - congratulations on your recovery. I wish you the best as your health continues to improve.
I get what you are saying, even if some others do not. "Hang our heads in shame" may have been an unfortunate phrase to use however. You are correct, there was not any criticism within the Corvette family regarding what year, model or horsepower rating you drove prior to the introduction of the C5. At that time, some (certainly not all) C5 owners turned on the C4 crowd. I know because I was driving a `93 when I joined this forum. What you may be seeing and feeling is a backlash by new Corvette owners who are not enthusiasts or students of the Corvette heritage. They can afford the newest and best, therefore all those older cars are not worthy of their indulgence.
What it all boils down to is that I don't care what others think. This 2000 may be the last Corvette I own, I still like it and it makes me happy when I drive it.

Never been close to being ashamed. I enjoy my C5 and I still think (after 8 years) that it's one of the best looking cars on the road!

I make no apologies to anyone for my Vette. I waited a long time till I could afford it and then I found one I like and bought it. It just happened to be a C5 with no frills except exhaust and wheels. You buy what your wallet allows. I'm about finished building a new garage that cost more than a lot of Vettes I've seen. Priorites, priorities...

Shame? Not hardly... certainly not when compared to a bunch of useless additional horsepower that gains me nothing but an empty pocketbook, high insurance rates and misplaced bragging rights amongst the kids.
I would not trade my C5 "even" for any of the options you mention.

C5's forever
You guys and gals are showing the kind of sentiment I was looking for when I started this thread. I am blessed enough that I could go out and trade my 98, which could pass for new, and pay cash for a low mile ZO6 and have a head start on the horsepower I am going to extract from my car. That is part of the challenge to come up with a plan as to the best way to go to get my car up to around 420 flywheel horsepower. I have a picture of me drag racing in that first 63 red roadster I told you about, it looks brandnew and was a four speed 300 hp car and can you imagine how a life long 19 yr. old gearhead felt driving into town in that car?
I paid the huge sum of $800.00 for that carand I guess I made around $150.00 per week then.
While I have your attention what do you think about the screens or billet grilles that go in the fog light openings, I am thinking about doing a few little things to personalize my car, nothing gaudy.

A few months ago I was tempted to buy a C6, I have an 04 Commemorative with 25k miles.
So I drove a few 07s and 08s over the course of a month. I live in the most populous county in Florida and there is a mobile tax collector on every other corner. I found the extra horsepower unusuable.
I did like the handling a little better and the upgraded cabin tech.
Here's the kicker: It would have cost me $12,000 to make the change!
Here's what I did:
Added C6 Z51 sways
Got a new Kenwood double din nav/infotainment system from Dennis.
With a backup camera.
Got a new mirror, auto dim with Homelink.
Got a Blendmount for my Escort 8500.
Total cost, installed: About $2,000.
I'll take another look after the C7s have been out a couple of years but I don't see myself buying a C6. What for?

And you are correct - tru Vette fans and dreamers get weak-kneed at the sight of any Vette. One of my all time fave's is a 1969 427 coupe in LeMans blue.
I know the car would not be the best ride, or the quickest, or the most reliable - but if I was told go buy my dream Vette (with someone elses money ) that would be it. Well, and a 2009 Sunset Orange ZR1. And then maybe a 2004 Z16 and a 1994 ZR-1 in Silver.
The thing is they ALL appeal to me.
Hell, I even like the idea of this smog-choked anemic '75 Vert.
Ain't no shame in loving ALL Corvettes.
