So a few weeks back I used techron in my 2002 Z06 (23k miles) for the first time. A day after I used it the gas guage started going all wonky on me. Up until this point I never had an issue with my gas guage.
I figured it'll clear itself up eventually but today the guage went flat and won't go back up anymore. So my questions are:
1) What the hell is going on?
2) I've heard of people resetting it and having the guage go back up, how do I do this?
I had read about the PCM reflash and may have to take it in and pay for it, but before I do that I'd wanna look at all my other options. For instance, everyone keeps saying that when they reset their PCM the guage goes back up, I'd like to know how this is done.
I'm also curious to see if this may have been caused by techron (since it happened a day after I put it in) or if running some mroe techron will help.

Do a search for "reading DIC trouble codes" ... also tells how to clear them.

Highly doubt it was the Techron. Did you over medicate it, or use the recommended amount?

Is it the same as just going into manual diagnostics and holding reset? If so, I've done that and it hasn't gotten right of the "check guages" warning and my needle is still down.

I waited for the tank to be empty and filled 3/4 of a 20oz bottle, then filled the tank full.

You have to hold the reset button while viewing the trouble code you want to clear on the DIC.
The "Check Gauges" light is different than the "Check Engine" light. Since there are no trouble codes, then apparently there is something wrong with the gauge/sending unit that does not set a trouble code. But the "Check Gauges" light is on because the gas gauge needle is on "E" or dead for some reason.
From the Owner's Manual:
Check Gages Warning Light This light will come on briefly when you are
starting the engine. If the light comes on and stays on while you are driving, check your gages to see if they are in the warning areas.

This light can come on for the following reasons:
Low Oil Pressure
High Coolant Temperature
High or Low Battery Voltage
Low Fuel Level
Yea that's the case here.
It seems like I have a few options form my research:
- Run some more techron and hope it clears up sulfur deposits
- Unplug and re-plug the fuel sender wires under teh car
- replace the sending units
So now I have one question; Can anyone show me a picture and point out which wires those are exactly?
If you have not used Techron before, it could take more than one tank of gas to clean the fuel sender..
I would just run several tanks of fuel through it before I did anything else.
It still seems unlikely that the Techron would cause the sender to stop working...
Remember there are two tanks, so if you pour the Techron in a partially filled system, it may not mix evenly.
