Default stupid question....reverse lights

Why are the bulbs for the reverse lights dual filament? Guessing it has to do with approach lights?

I guess I did not know they were dual filament.

I didn't either, thought they would be the standard 1156 bulbs and since I had ordered a few LEDs to replace the lighting in my RV, I was gonna swap out the reverse lights in the vette

i changed mine out about a year ago for the super bright LEDs and to be honest never noticed that they were dual. my guess assuming that they are the correct bulbs is that perhaps the alarm signal (or the unlock function) flashes in the reverse housing uses a different side of the dual filament than the regular reverse activated lights.

Default Back-up lights ?

I own a 2003 and I always was disappointed in the light emitted from the standard 1156 bulbs, (Which are the old style cup-twist bottom contacts, not the bayonet type)) I replaced the entire license plate and backup light panel with the 'Adjure' it has bigger and less of the little reflective pyramids than the stock unit. (One of our sponsors sells the "Adjure" units, but I don't Know who off the top of my head right now.

I then installed "Polarg M12 Superwhite 28/7w bulbs. They draw one watt more than the stock, but emits a really crisp white light. (Backing out of my driveway is so much better now that it is well lit.) And I installed the Sequential turn signal device sold by many of our sponsors/Mid-America a is whom I purchased it from. And installed 4 "Nokya Hyper Mini bulbs in the stock sockets. they when combined with the their Brake light flasher give the tail end of a C5 a really different appearance once the lights are on and the foot brake is applied.Very low cost mod and it give the "Bang for the buck" cost effectiveness. Very happy with the results.

I think its just so that they're brighter.

A standard 1157 (dual filament) bulb is brighter than a standard (single filament) 1156 bulb.

I'm not certain, but I have read that about other cars which also use 1157's for back-up bulbs.

A replacement 1156 LED bulb will work just fine. Most LED replacement bulbs I've seen, the final brightness of the 1156 and 1157 bulbs are identical.

I've always wondered that myself. The dim circuit on the connector isn't hooked up to anything. If they are brighter then that makes sense.
