Anyone have a little pull with Escort? Wife purchased a Passport iQ for me Christmas 2010. Within 4 months, the unit was back to Escort twice. First time the screen went blank and Escort paid for shipping both ways. Second time the new screen had a vertical stripe through it. I paid to ship it back.
Last Friday after work, I get in the car and the screen has fallen out and is laying on the dash. The Li-Po battery has expanded so bad, it pushed the screen out.
I talk to Escort today, and service department says "Send it back (at my expense, again) and for $99 they will fix it, its a couple of months out of warranty.
That's just not right .
I agree with you, and thats not a cheap unit by any measure. Try ranting a little at escorts site, (www.escortradarforum.com). Have seen them step in a few times and try to help out. Good luck.
I have a Passport 9500IX (3 years) and Passport Redline (3 months) and no issues with either. They are simpler systems no fancy screens or GPS Navigation like the IQ.
As mentioned above try their forums. Interested to see this how this turns out.
A few questions on usage: Do you leave the unit hanging off the windshield all the time? In the sun? Do you leave the unit plugged in when the vehicle is not in use?
I usually take down my GPS unit and Radar detector and unplug them when the vehicle is not being used, this includes quick trips to restaurants or grocery shopping.
Good luck with this mess!

Good news from Escort. Just got off the phone with a supervisor there and she has agreed to repair the unit this one time for free. It doesn't give me any longer warranty (didn't expect one) or anything like that, but at least it will be fixed.
