I have been looking for about 2 months and have decided my next car will be a c5 z06.

I was curious to know if there is any difference between a 01-04 z06.

Also certain things to look for. Im looking to spend 20k or less.

I have found some pretty good deals around but would like to know more info before i pull the trigger.

Thank you.

Hopefully ill have pics up soon.

Major differences are between the 01 Z06 and the 02-04. I beleive the differences are the cam and valves (please correct me if im wrong guys). There are other diffreences as well that most here will know better than me.

The 01's have 385bhp while the 02-04's have 405bhp. This means the 01's badge just says Z06 instad of "Z06 405hp" if that matters to you lol.

There are some diffrences between the 02-04's as well, namely the shocks on the 04's, but nothing huge.

A budget of $20k is going to have you looking at higher mileage Z's.

EDIT: Also, the 2001's are the only year that came in white.

Thank you very much. I appreciate any feed back.

I found a few with close to 80-90k miles and some around 40-50k miles.

I love the white z06.....

White C5Zs are one of the best looking colors out there, too bad they only made them in 01. Not that there is anything really wrong 01, had I found a Speedway white C5Z, it would have been done! If you have located one and its in good shape, under a 100K miles, do it!!!

I believe those were the big changes from 01, cam, springs, valves, computer tuning, then some minor details like the HUD and being able to disable active handling when on the move etc.

The most important thing with regard to these cars is the owner, was it maintained etc. I would steer clear of a car that has 4-5 owners! Look for for a 1-2 owner car and run autocheck. If you are 1st time buyer, take someone knowledgeable with you and or have a shop check it out on your dime. You don't wanna buy one that is going to break the bank repairing. I called my usual Chevrolet dealer and them run my vin to see what warranty issue had been addressed, just to know what was done in the past.

Cant go wrong either way. Personally I would go for an unmodified Z. Less potential issues and less chances of being dogged out. STOCK from a performance standpoint at the end of the 1320, whether 01,02-04, bumper to bumper.

I believe one of the main reasons for the performance difference between '01 and later years was the exhaust design. '01 had a more restrictive 4 cat design, while the later cars have a more traditional 2 cat design.

This the same grimlock that had a red srt8 charger?

btw that yellow is growing on me. Seen a few with black wheels looks very nice.

Im going to try and stick with an 03-04.... If not whatever is the cleanest and best maintained.

Yes this is the same Grimlock. Why would you not look at the '02? I would just look for the nicest overall car. If you don't plan to mod much, go for '02 and later. If you plan to mod, then the year does matter too much and just look for the best car even if it is an '01. Unless you really want the HUD which I think is useless because I always wear polarized glasses.

03-04 the fuel pump is more difficult to Chang and they do t make a triple gauge pod. Won't really matter unless you're planning on doin more than h/c. The stock valvetrain will be easier to sell off of an 02 or later.

I prefer the 2004 LeMans Blue Z06 myself....kinda nice to stand out, and I doubt you'll run into another just like it.

I agree that the Z16 is a cool model, but it wasn't my favorite and wasn't worth the extra $2K premium when I was shopping. My first choice was yellow, and my second choice was EB. The Z16 was my 3rd choice, and I seriously consider it because I think it will hold value better, but I just decided it wasn't worth it to me. They are killer though!

I have been to an autocross before and seen 5 of them though. My MY Z06 was actually the more rare car at that event.
