Opinions please! I had agreed to purchase a '99 Coupe from a private seller on the condition that he fixed the passenger window. It would not roll up or down from either control. The seller ended up getting the motor replaced. The window now works, BUT now it does not seal properly. Both wind and water now leak (minor) in from the top of the window. I'm not sure how bad as I have not seen or driven it since the motor was replaced. The issue is that the seller has had 3 different mechanics look at it, including a so-called Corvette expert. The window has been adjusted multiple times, but they can't get rid of the leak. The mechanic is now suggesting replacing the weatherstripping, even through it wasn't leaking before the motor was replaced. Soooo, now the owner is offering to knock off $1,500 off his original price, which I thought was a very fair price in the first place. I'm fairly sure I can get this window right for less than $1,500, BUT if I can't, I've purchased a cheap Vette with a window leak! Should I avoid this purchase, or is it a virtual certainty that I can fix this for less than $1,500?? If new weather stripping doesn't fix this, and 3 mechanics couldn't adjust the window properly, what else can it be??? Thanks!!
I wouldnt let the window issue stop you from buying the car. That is definitely something that can be fixed for alot less than $1,500. Honestly it sounds like the window just isnt being adjusted properly. I wouldnt let that steer you away from the car.
the window regulator that was installed may not have been a genuine gm part. there are a few different ones available at various prices with the gm one being the most expensive. when i replaced my driver side regulator, i bought the cheaper one. it works fine but i had a hard time adjusting it. i finally got to where it is ok, but i think the window sealed better with the factory original. i don't think the new rubber is going to cost as much as they quoted you should be able to install it if need be. i say buy the car.
