My patience is running thin by now to have to resort to asking for help, so before I load the car on a trailer and take it somewhere for someone else to figure out I will ask you guys first.
So my issue is this, it's happened a couple of times before but after trying and trying it would finally start and run. But today after letting it sit for several days without starting it will not start. It's very strange, I can turn the car over and it will rev up and then die, eveytime. Sometimes it will backfire inside the intake, almost like it's out of time, which im sure isn't the issue because it's done it before and started and runs great once started. I'm leaning towards maybe a faulty crank or cam sensor, or possibly a faulty throttle body, which I did check and the flapper thing inside is working properly. Other than that I don't know if it maybe could be a computer fault, maybe it's not telling something to work. I don't know, I'm not a vette wise. Anyways if anyone has ever heard or experienced such a thing on a 99 c5 let me know what ya think.
Take a deep breath, pull up a chair, and listen to your Vette brothers. Help is here. You need to pull the codes first and post them here. Then if you could give a history of any mods or recent activity with your Vette like radio upgrade or something. Do the basics..........do a voltage check on the battery not on the DIC, if you get less than 12.5 volts then pull the battery and have it checked for condition at a local parts store. If it is low, then get a full charge on it. Do these things and give the tech people here a chance to help you trouble shoot. I understand your frustration but look at this as a learning opportunity. Good Luck.
New battery.. No codes other than like the airbag B0026 , and wheel sensor codes. It gets fire and fuel at first start up then I dunno what happens once it dies . I'm clueless at this point. Kinda acts like it's flooded.
ok. no codes is actually a good sign. New batteries sometimes are not fully charged and they do go bad. Did you check the connection on the terminal? There is a torque spec of 11 lbs/ft. Check that it has proper torque. Check the battery voltage. Might seem silly but it is part of the decision tree. Do it across the terminals but disconnect the ground first. Anything below 12.5 you need to fix. Then I would try cleaning the key with alcohol really well. Sometimes oil and dirt give faulty resistance readings on the chip in the key. You might have an ignition switch failure. That comes to mind. Do a search on here for Bill Curlee's write up about the ignition switch.
I am sure other more capable people other than me will chime in soon. This is not the first "no start" Vette ok? Good Luck.
