Default 255/40/17 ?

I am looking at buying 255/40/17 tires for the front tires on my 99' vette I have the 275/40/18 in the rear. What do you all think? Should I get these or just stay with the same size that I have already in the front(245/45/17) ?

IMHO....let it with the stock sizes. You're better off in the long run and won't have tire issues.

A 275/40-18 tire will have an overall diameter of 26.7" and a 255/40-17 will have a 25" overall diameter. Stock sizes have a 1" difference between front and rear. I think if you go with the 255 front tires, you will have problems with your AH/TC. I'd stick with the stock sizes if it were me.

If you go with a wider front tire you will have to do down to a 35 or 30 to keep the front diameter less than the rear to keep the computer happy.

Dang I just ordered 245/40/17 will it be to bad if I keep my 275/40/18 on the back until I can get some new ones for the back? (like a week or so)

Another option is to run 255/45/17 front with 285/40/18 rear.

It keeps about the same amount of stagger to keep the computer happy and the rears are only 0.3 inch taller so the speedometer is pretty close too (only off about 0.7 mph at 60 mph).
