Default Clutch Engagement Question

Let me first say, the car drives great, and i have had no clutch related problems that i have read about here, like a sticky pedal etc.

My car has 25k miles, it does not get driven real hard, but there is something i wanted to know.

Does clutch wear and tear directly correlate to where the clutch engages?

As far as i can tell, my clutch works great, fluid is clear, but if you thought about clutch engagement as a value between 1 and 10, with 1 being at the floor, and 10 being all the way up, i would say mine regularly engages around 7.

Is there an adjustment, or is my clutch literally worn most of the way down?

If you have a stock GM clutch & pressure plate, there are automatic adjusters built into the pressure plate to coincide with clutch disc wear.

Now quit thinking & go out & drive it.

If you don't drive your car hard, I doubt if you will ever have a sticky clutch pedal or missed gears.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, and yes it does have the stock clutch.

I do not understand exactly what you mean by the automatic adjusters built in, are you saying that they adjust the engagement no matter the amount of wear?

In other words, a brand new clutch, and a completely worn out one will engage around the same place?

I have 12,000 miles on my stock clutch and engagement is the same as yours. I guess it is normal for a C5 Z06. C6s I have driven engage at a lower point.

I've got some notes I made back in 2003 on the clutch pedal engagement when my Zee had only 5K miles on it and the clutch was like new.

Measurements were made with a ruler from the floor to the top of the pedal.

Results:
Pedal all the way up = 8.0"
Pedal all the way down = 2.5"
Clutch just starting to engage = 4.5"
Clutch full engaged = 6.75 ~ 7.0"

So you can see the clutch engagement range is when the pedal is 4.5" to 7.0" off the floor. When the pedal is anywhere between that range, then the clutch is in some state of partial engagement.
