Got three estimates $752, $910 and $1450. Went give them to the Dad as he had asked me to and his attitude changed to one resembling his wifes. Don't think he will man up and make it right. Called my insurance and they said it falls under my collision policy which has a $500 deductible. Looks like small claims court may be in my future.

Just saw this post and find it so sad. But I love your response. It seems so simple to me to for the Dad/Mom to accept that their kid had an accident and that "Sure" they will pay to fix this man's wonderful Corvette. Maybe they will indeed "Man up" and do the right thing. Maybe.

When one of my sons was 6 years old we were riding our bikes and he ran into a parked honda prelude not paying attention and broke the rear light lens.....thinking hmmm let's just ride on I thought as a father this was a learning moment about taking responsibility so we went up to the door and rang the doorbell...no one answered so I told my son I would take care of it and let's go home.....he insisted to keep ringing the bell and finally out came a teenager and we explained the situation and I said we would pay for the damage...short story cost me $275 for that learning moment but he is a better person for it.....

Thanks....that helps.

Was it the rubber/plastic handle grip of his bike that marred it? If so, it might just be surface transfer and buff out completely.

If it got under the clear coat....it's a mark that won't go away.

What did the body folks say regarding this?

Anyway....just over thinking....looks like you've done the homework and have "small claims" in your near future. Bummer.

The handle bars had no grips on them. The metal edge scraped the car. You can catch your nail on it. Body shops said rear bumper cover would come off and be completely repainted, to avoid tape lines, as well as repainting the quarter panel. I know it could probably be touched up and look ok but the car is flawless. I don't want it ok I want it like it was before the accident. Nothing more and nothing less.

Update

Parents never took responsibility and never contacted me. I have never taken civil action against anyone in my life and I am 37 years old. These people are responsible for the damage to my car and I refuse to pay for them. I have filed a case in small claims court for the repair of my car. This is one of the problems with society today, people not owning up to their responsibilities. Well I hope these parents learn a life lesson my parents taught me long ago when our case is heard on August 14, 2012.

Good luck. Hope you get it all resolved thru small claims. You are a rare breed these days due to the fact that you tried to handle it in a respectively nice manner. It's unfortunate, but thru my life lessons I've learned that nice guys finish last.

I recall driving a beater for 10 straight years without ever having an incident of shopping carts slam into me. Body flawless..no dings..dents..etc.. When I got a new beamer, within 1 month of ownership, as I was sitting outside in the parking lot of walmart, bam...shopping car slams into my front fender. It seems like no matter how careful we are in calculating ways to minimize the chance of something bad happening to our cars, it happens anyway.

So the moral of the story is, don't love the car too much. If it happens, then it was meant to be.
This may seem at first to be a little off topic, but perfectly illustrates what Jet Moto is saying. I had an original '69 RS Camaro and absolutely loved it even though I got it late in its life. I finally ended up selling to a guy who was going to restore it and is the only reason I sold it at all!! I was lucky enough to see it when it was done and the guy did an amazing job on it, even a color change to black and it was flawless!!!!!!!

I loved that car so much that when the 5th gen Camaros came out, I had to have one!! I bought a 2010 "Bumblebee" with 1500 miles on it. Not new, but pretty dang close. Planned to keep it forever as it was the closest to brand new as I had ever bought!!

Well........fourth day home with it, we had a major hail storm and got caught in it. $3500.00 of damage!! Got it fixed and went on. A few months later, on my way to school for a night basketball game, a dog jumped up out of the barr ditch right in front of me with no time to react!! Hit it dead center at 70 mph. Another $3500.00 worth of damage!!!! While I was waiting for my appointment to get it in and get that fixed, a bunch of kids decided to go around town and throw rocks at vehicles. Yes, mine got tagged and guess what?!?!?!? Another $3500.00 estimate for the damages!!!!!!!!!

At this point, I realize that no matter how much I like this car, it has some serious bad Ju JU issues!!!!!! I got rid of it as soon as it was whole again and hope that the next guy has much better luck with it!!!!!!!! Sometimes you just gotta know when it's time to say, "Okay, enough!"

Just read every post. Just hearing sh** like this makes my blood boil. Im soo pumped that u won, all u wanted was your car fixed! Not like u were trying to rip them off or anything? I hope u shot the parents a great big smile and reminded them how much easier/cheaper this situation could have been if they were just honest people!

Consider yourself lucky. Around here you would win a small claims court case but the system had no way of making the people pay. This was 15 years ago and things may have changed since then.

I'da bet a months salary you were gonna loose this. I'm very happy you didn't. I have a similar story, years ago, my 93 Formula parked at work inside a fenced in parking area and me working late. We'd often have kids playing in the parking lot, usually not a big deal other than the filthy #*$%&'s littering all over my lot. (I hate litterbugs). So I go out and here on my drivers door, not one, but several of the kids have smashed their bikes into the car. ???????? I of course wasn't there to see it, so I didn't have a leg to stand on.

My only recourse was to tell the kids to get out, and that I'd have the police patrol the area and arrest them if they came back. My lot has a real nice steep area that's paved that's fun for skateboarding, etc. It's off a back alley so its safe, no traffic to avoid. I said that when someone came forward to pay for my car, I'd change the policy of no more using the parking lot for recreation. Well, nobody ever came forward, it's been 12 years or so, and I haven't changed my mind about allowing kids in there. I was a kid once too, and I was responsible for what I did. I didn't need prodding about it either. Then, here's a case where the parents are teaching the kid to be just as low as they are.

Good on ya for winning. I still can hardly believe it.

Winning the case is one thing, collecting is another matter entirely in my experience. I had to go to the Court Clerk and put a lien on a guy's house after his kid shot out my french door with a BB-gun, I won in small-claims court, but he just refused to pay...

Until he decided to refinance his mortgage, that is. Couldn't budge until the lien was corrected. It had been 3 years, so I got interest tacked on at 5% APR simple.

Good luck w/ yours!

Congrat's on the court decision, I have nothing but contempt for those trashy people.....
As has been said by others, trust that the payment comes quickly and you can move on!
Appreciate you sharing your experiences all the way the journey
