I am currently run C6 Z06 style chrome wheel on my '01 Torch Red coupe. I am thinking about do then in the black Plasti-Dip and adding a red stripe on the outer rim lip. My question is has anyone done their chrome wheels with the Plasti-Dip and if you added a stripe did you do it with pin stripe tape or paint it on?
Iv seen lots of videos on YouTube plasti-dipping wheels, chrome, an other. Some of them are how too's: prepare, clean, ect.
I would say if you want to pinstripe to buy a pinstripe kit with brushes an everything an give it a shot yourself. Practice on something first.
Good luck
I plasti dipped my polished wheels on my 01 pewter vert, but I didnt stripe them. I posted a thread with pics a couple of weeks ago. It should be easy to find by searching my past posts. Let me know if you want to see it, but cant find it. Otherwise, let me know what you think. Im very pleased and you can easily remove it, if you want.
I plasti dipped my chrome thin spokes and they look great. I took my time and did plenty of coats. The dip has been on my wheels for three or four months and it still looks like it did when I put it on there.
As for the stripe. You could set up a rig to pin stripe it with a stationary brush in a jig and then spin your wheel. That's probably the easiest way to get it perfect.
Give it a try! If it doesn't work peel it of and try again! That's the beautiful thing about pasti dip!
was going to do mine as well until I read a post that I think was in Kirk's thread stating that PD melted into a liquid after a day of autocrossing which caused the lugs to come loose. decided its not worth the risk.
Haven't auto crossed my car, but plasti dipped my chrome thin spokes 2 weeks ago and no signs of melting. When it comes to the stripe, My first thought would be tape on top of the PD....if you dont like it, just a peel off process......
