Default 2000 Vette Convertible

for 4 years I have had a 2000 convertible and the back window, which is glass, is falling out for the 3rd time in 4 years. I was told that the window was just heat sealed when it was manufactured. The first time I was able to use gorilla glue and and lot of other hardware to reset the window and it was great for 2 years. I fixed it again with the glue the same as before, but that time the canvas was stiff and hard to work with because of the glue and it barely worked. It now is coming loose again and I know I won't be able to glue it. Is there any way to remove the heavy glass and put in a plastic window. I actually have no idea how to remove the top and re-install it.

I hope to find out it is possible so that I don't need to replace the roof, which is in great shape (except that the windows don't match up perfectly and in real hard rain it drips, but that's the "fun" of owning a vette, I guess.)

Would appreciate any help. Thanks

Since we have two C5 convertibles, I kept the link to this thread:

Good luck,

I feel your pain.

If you can't get the 'gorilla glue' to hold any longer you may be out of luck. Removing the top is not difficult, there are several attachment points that using torx screws located near the seat belt attachment area. There may be a solvent to soften the fabric, but I'm unaware of it..

I had to reatach mine (2000 vert) about 4 years ago and it held quite well. I traded that car last spring.

If you've got a DIY / fix-it-yourself attitude, or a very helpful mechanic, I highly recommend doing the fix linked by Roostertail. You'll notice in the last two pages of that thread that I recently had to do the fix, and compared to a number of other things I've done, it was probably one of the easier fixes to do.

You might try the Rhino Glue, as mentioned on the forum. I just did the two sides on mine, seemed easy and hopefully will last. I think this stuff is better than the Gorilla stuff.

@ Nick (Roostertail) This is the plan that I used to fix it the first and second time. Work great the first time for 2 years. I think the large snowfall in the winter was probably what made is loose. I usually had the car in a car port, but it had so much snow I was afraid of it collapsing, so I moved it outside. It had about 6-8" on it by the time I was able to get it off. Think that just pressed my luck too much. Oh well. Thanks for the info though.
