Project C5 Update: Build Thread...
I have been on and off the C6 fence for years now.
For two years I considered selling my 19K mike Torch Red C5 Z06 for a low mile used C6Z06 ($30K differential). Test drove a few, made a good amount of inquiries, and in the end just could not justify the $30K difference for a weekend fun car that sees the occasional trip to Virginia International Raceway.
Next I went on the Grand Sport fence, most recently considering a new 1LT GS Manual at a $23K differential. I just could not make myself part with the C5, the car is so much fun.
So I started thinking. What do I like better about the C6? For starters it is the interior fit and finish, quality of materials, etc. The second think I prefer is the wide body stance and look of the C6.
I made a few calls today to some of the supporting vendors. Caravaggio, Kooks, CCW, PFADT, etc and have come up with a game plan to try and complete over the next two years.
Interior upgrade project ($5.5 K):
Caravaggio Race Seats
Caravaggio waterfall, arm rest, C6 shift **** & boot, e-brake **** & Boot, console/radio bezel, Lower door panels, Driver kick panel, Glove box, C6Style steering wheel, and lower left dash
All components in black leather and alcantara (mixed) with torch red stitching.
Suspension Upgrade ($2K):
PFADT Feather-light Single Adjustable Coil-overs
Cosmetic Upgrade ($5000)
CCW SP-500 18/19 wheel/tire package
Caravaggio Side Splitters
ACI Rear spoiler
Powertrain Upgrade ($3000)
Kooks Headers with Catted X Pipe
Ported and polished throttle body
Callaway Honker Air Intake
Professional Tune
Technology Upgrade ($1000)
In Dash headunit / Touchscreen Navigation including iPod input, etc
So for a grand total of $16.5K (still $6.5K short of a new grand sport) I think I can build an extremely unique vehicle that meets or exceeds the C6 grand sport in all areas (Performance, Aesthetics, Fit and finish... etc).
The only downside I can see is in resale where the car would still only be work 28-30K if I had to sell it. But then again I would probably take an 8K hit driving the Grand Sport off of the lot, and I don’t plan to part with this car anytime soon.
What are your thoughts?

I spent $4k over the last year and have about another $4k to do over the next year or 2. I'm not going to redo the interior.
I like the looks, roominess inside and the reliability of the C5. I just don't see the C6 as a big enough jump up to justify a $13k difference. I'd rather do the mods and save the money.

Here is a customers car we just did a few days ago.
Kenwood 9990HD with cmos 310 rear cameras
leather wrapped double din with yellow stitching.
leather wrapped console base with yellow stitching
leather wrapped upper knee bolster with yellow stitching
leather wrapped door panels. Black leather with yellow stitching on top and yellow leather on bottom
leather wrapped traction control
all this was 4250.00 installed
The seat covers were sent to us to install so we put the covers on for him
Next week when I get back from vacation we will be doing final fitment on new Procar brackets to send a set of seats for a little DD MODs leather work. So will have seats available for you too

I think this is what you have in mind for door panels maybe?

But make sure you speak with Dennis @ Double D Mods like 'he' mentioned right above!

(1) What about a Head and Cam package for performance too?
(2) Especially since you were drawn to the C6 Z06 (505 HP) and the GS @ 436 HP - upgrade the HP on your Vette to match?
I suggest to do a H/C package or do a Supercharger from A&A Corvette! = it will get you 500+ RWHP

Thanks,Matt

if you keep it , who cares!
I had the same thought process, before starting some spending, wanted a Z06, non available, also prefer convertible. not too keen on C6 looks yet... so my stock gap, has turned to a keeper.... it is cheaper to Run than most other performance cars, so I going to do some nice personalisation, and chase more than 405BHP in other ways!
your list looks really good, don't forget to post pics as you go through the list!!

I would love those mod red door panels, and leather interior panels as in the yellow car but with red stitching, and the double din upgrade. Did the yellow car have a speaker/power amp upgrade, or just a head unit upgrade?
I need to plan a road trip from Green Bay to Kieler.
Jim
I took mine and spent a boat load on mods.... and still have WAY LESS in it than I would have had in a C6 Z06. I LOVE C6 Z06's but not at the expense of losing my C5.
